She was a rough lady but she was also very dear to everyone. I wish she was still around so I could talk to her again. Just remember, when she was your age things were a lot different. Because of that she has a hard time with empathy towards our generation.
I agree with minty (hope it's ok I call you that) about your Nan. It could very well be she's just set in her ways and she doesn't realize she's coming off as rude. God knows my gran was that way. Gran was my great grandmother and she was super Christian. Like I mean you weren't allowed to do anyghing on Sundays because it's 'a day of rest' deal. But...she was...negative towards anyone who was blonde. She favored darker haired people and almost grimaced at blondes.
Now me being brunette, I had no problem receiving praise from her. My grandmother on the other hand, not so much. If you did something 'offensive' in her house it was witchcraft and you wouldn't get dinner. She was extremely strict and absolutely set in her ways. Does that make her right? No, no it doesn't but sometimes it's easier to just let it roll off than explain why they are wrong.
I agree with you too though, that was rather rude and uncalled for. However, talking to her about this matter could only drive a wedge between you guys and I don't want that. Should you choose to take it, my advice would be to do what you are comfortable with and what's right for your sister. In the end it's you who controls what you do in life not your Nan. I hope that helps and doesn't sound rude >.< If it's rude I'm sorry
