I am really curious as to what your costume's finished product will look like. And I think I have an idea on that person. I've seen a lot of them... *sigh*

And yeah, I really do agree with you. Sure, if people just want to do a half-assed costume, then go for it, I don't really care. But it is kinda annoying now that you mentioned it. Like, if they want to do that at a con, go for it. But if people who have never seen cosplayers are going to see a poorly made one for the first time, that does rather suck.
Anyways, I'm glad that your paddling season ended on a decent note like that, and woohoo for cons this month! Mine's the same weekend as yours. =P I finally finished getting everything together for my three cosplays (except for pants on one because my friend is finishing the sewing this weekend XD).
And I totally understand what you mean about the fan thing. ._.
