Welcome to my little corner of The Otaku!
Let me introduce myself. I sign my art as "Kasey-chan", so feel free to call me that. My interest in drawing started when my sister and I went down to the book store and we discovered How-To-Draw-Anime books. It took off from there.
When I'm not scribbling away I am pursuing work in theatrical properties, spending way too much time on Netflix, watching too much TV, and wishing radioactive waste really did give people superpowers.
Here's some of my favorite things :).
Anime: Miyazaki's works, Tokyo Godfathers, Astro Boy (2003)
Manga: Rurouni Kenshin and Hana Kimi
American Cartoons: Batman: The Animated Series, Avatar: The Last Airbender, The Venture Brothers, Gravity Falls, Scooby Doo: Mystery Incorporated

I'm pretty much up for anything except yaoi/yuri. PM me .
Well, tonight is closing night for our show, and this week is the last week of serious classes. The weather is also warmer and I got a sunburn the other day. It's really hitting me that school is almost over! And for once in my life, I kind of wish I could stay. I will dearly miss all of my theatre friends. Just having people to wait up for me to go somewhere, play games and watch movies with, and be there to make sure I don't eat dinner alone has made such an impact on me. Not to mention I won't be doing any acting over the summer. I wish our college did a summer season or something like that.
However, I will still be involved in the theatre this summer, but not acting. I'll be doing a theatre shop job. This means I'll be building, painting, setting up, and striking sets. Maybe run crew too. I'll be the first to admit I am not the best talent in a shop situation, but I still love it. There's always good, honest work to be done and I always feel that I accomplished something at the end of the day. Plus I'll learn so many skills that will help my outside the theatre realm. Also, I get to be around theatre people all summer! My favorite kind!
Unfortunately this job may distract me from my art, but I'll try my best to keep it up. Lately, I've been really focused on characters that are outside of the generic labels and stereotypes. Also on backgrounds and environments. Hopefully I can find time to develop my skills.
Yup, so in other art news, I submitted a mascot for the NYC contest. He probably won't win, I just wanted to go for something different. I was going to submit more, but I just couldn't go more generic. I was at a total loss for ideas! There was nothing I could think of with a chance of winning that wasn't something along the lines of a big boobed magical girl, vampire, elf, angel, etc. No interesting designs at all. So because I was not having any fun whatsoever on the contest, I decided to drop it. What's the point if you don't enjoy what you're drawing?
Yup so this was a long post. I have a pic I'm working on and will try to get it up soon!

Well, I haven't posted in forever due to my assistant stage managing and it being tech week. I was backstage most of my weekend for wet and dry tech. For those of you who don't know theatre lingo, dry tech is going through and working out all the lighting, sound, fly, and scene changing cues without the actors. This takes a long time because a lot of things are changed and rehearsed. Wet tech is with the actors, and takes even longer. Collectively, I was in the theatre for about 12 hours, and this week will beat that easily. It's really a shame that I love theatre too much to have a life... However I did manage to get some art done! I drew a mascot too for the NYC contest, I hope to pump at least two more out before the deadline, whenever it is. Mainly, I just want to be a runner up, so long as I get the Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei manga starter pack haha.
Yup, so in other news, I discovered Firefly! Anyone know that show? It was cancelled after one season because it was on at the wrong time I guess, which sucks. It's an awesome show! I love Wash (Alan Tudyk is one of my fav. actors) and Kaylee, they are my fav.s, but I think the whole group dynamic is one of the best I've seen on a sci fi show. This totally kicks Stargate's ass. I think I might actually buy this one. And that's saying something. I'm adding it to my list of DVD's to get off half.com. So far I've got Rockadoodle, Spirited away, Robin Hood (BBC seasons 2 and 3 (when 3 comes out)), Red Green (maybe), and Firefly. Wow, I need to make some money haha.
Yup, so now I have to practice my voice lessons and then study for a quiz, also get hw done for the same class
I'll check in with you all later!
This pic is just too awesome for words.

Well it's been a week since I got back, and it's been a pretty busy week. Well, at least, it got a lot less stressful after Tuesday after our scene projects for this one class were due. My partner and I did the second scene from Doubt. I played Sister James, which i could have done a lot better at, but oh well, I'm just glad it's over. Has anyone seen the movie? I heard it was good and I love the play, so I really wanted to see it. However, I just never got around to it.
So in other news, I've developed two new addictions since coming back to school. One is this exquisite green tea I got at Mitsuwa (which is the largest Japanese market around). It really invigorates me, so I have like 4 cups a day. I've really become a fast addict. My other addiction is the 1966 TV series of Batman (with Adam West). I downloaded seasons 1-3 over break and have been watching it every night since. It humors me so much. I love how Gotham city has everything from a hospital with a deep de-freezifier to just about every kind of valuable art and jewelry display imaginable. Not to mention super heros and villains donning costumes my grandmother could have made cooler. bahaha. I love it so much. It's so craptastic, it's genius!
Well, I got two new art pieces up, feel free to check them out ^_^.
So this one I made with photoshop and taking a screen shot of the one episode of Batman. This is one where a girl villain masquerades as Robin. Yes. That legitimately happens. The best part is everyone falls for it.

So I'm officially on Spring Break! YeeHaw! I can't wait to do nothing! lol. Actually, I want to watch a lot of musicals online just to increase my inventory, also there's a book to work on, script to memorize, house to clean (because we're moving) and downloaded stuff to watch. Huzzah. I'm also working on a new manga idea, so hopefully that will come to life by the end of break and I'll be able to post pics and stuff.
Yup so I already went to go see Into the Woods, which was good, but very weird. I'll admit, it's not the best "fairy tale gone wrong" piece I've ever seen, but it was still pretty good. I loved the "Anguish" song sung by the two princes. That made me laugh. Still, I can't help but feel that somewhere in between the first and second acts the author broke up with someone or someone died and the author just decided "To hell with it! Everyone dies!!!!!". The thought made me laugh.
Yeah, so now I'll go work on that manga idea. I'll be in and out all week to check up on people.
Have fun otaku-ing!
Well, one more week until spring break! I can't wait! I'm going to try to get all of my work done ahead of time this week so I won't have anything to do but relax, and hopefully get art done in the week to come. ^_^. Speaking of art, I just posted a fan art of a siren. Check it out!
Yup, so this assistant stage manager thing has really got me busy. Not work wise, just time wise. I'm there from 6:30-10:00 every night with nothing really to do in between setting up the set and then breaking it down afterwards. However, on the upside, I really enjoy watching the musical. Plus, it's a lot of time to get HW and art done. The people I work with are awesome too. Theatre people are the best in the world. Never a dull moment lol.
Ah yes, our theatre is supposedly haunted. Though I have never encountered this ghost, and hopefully I never will, other people have "met" him. Or her...Personally, I think there might be two. A man ghost who lives in the actual theatre part and a woman who lives by our professors office. I think this because late at night people hear high heels walking down the hall and steps when no one is there. And the the main part of the theatre, lights turn off and whispering goes on, and people see "shadows". Yes, but I've never really seen or heard any of this. Ghost or no ghost, that theatre is still one of the creepiest places to be at night when no one is there, so I think it's just scared people seeing and hearing what they want to see and hear. How very logical sounding for a theatre major to say. It's not that I don't believe in the supernatural, I certainly do. I wouldn't be a Christian if I didn't ^_^. There are evil and good supernatural entities, this I know. But wether it's dead people or demons or something else, I can't say. It's just better to pray to God and have the confidence that nothing can harm me. However, they can sure freak me out! *brrrrrr* Man, I hate thinking about stuff like that. My imagination if definitely way too vivid for me to think about those kinds of things all the time. The best way to get my mind off it if concentrate on the good side of the spiritual world. How God has blessed me and the exciting places he's going to take me.
And that's pretty much all I have to say about that. Wow, long rant.
well, have fun otaku-ing!
