That sounds like an assigning problem. It seems like you've saved the option to always save them instead of give you a choice.
Usually to fix that you need to control panel it up, but I can't quite recall where right now, and I'm not on my comp so I can't really check. I suggest googling the question.
I know some computers (both my old and my new one) has a setting in the 'control panel' somewhere where you can change settings you've made to your computer in the past _____ days (you can set how long). I've had my computer do screwy things before, and then I just went there and fixed it that way. (It doesn't change anything like documents or pictures that you've saved onto your computer, just system running stuff...)
It wasn't just torrents, it would be for things like items received in emails and so on. I liked it because with torrents, it let me open them directly into the download program, but now I have to save every torrent link first and that's a pain in the butt.
It lets me pick where I want to save things, but the problem is it ONLY let's me SAVE them rather than giving me the "Open" option too. And no, it just glitched and started doing this the other night. My torrent program was already open and I had a bunch of things running in it, which slows down my computer a lot, and it happened right after a slow moment when things were in limbo.
If you were opening the link in order to send it to a torrent program, you might try instead right-clicking and selecting "Copy Link Location" and then manually transferring it to the program that way.
Other than that I'm not sure. I can see where it might be no longer asking where to save the file to, but I can't see why it would just save it automatically.
I would agree with Jae with the exception of that I know you want that window back up. ._. Hmm... this is interesting. You've got me browsing my Firefox settings now, as that's what I use on Vista.
....TO THE DES MASTER!
._. no really i have no clue but what i would do is right click it once it's saved and go to "open with.." then select your program.

Uninstall then reinstall firefox. If that doesn't fix it, then there could be a bot on your computer.

Hope that helps at least somewhat...
