TLC is it's own special case. For years now I've been saying they need to just change the name of the channel, because I don't see anything on there that has anything to do with "learning".
I can't wait until time travel is possible. Imagine the shows: Escape from the USSR!, where you must smuggle secrets out of Soviet Russian of 1956...and win fabulous prizes!
I only notice the ones on TLC... which is now all about BAKERIES.... and children! Maybe some little people! Or a wedding? Seriously every show on that channel has at least one of those factors. If they could figure out how to mix them all together their heads might explode.

I stopped trying to figure out trends and censorship long ago. Seeing how there are thousands (sadly this probably isn't an over exaggeration) of remakes of both vintage and newer movies. Not to mention the straight to video sequels.
If you watch the Back to the Future, "shit" is used a few times. So somehow that wasn't all that bad.
Or take MTV and their newer risky show with the overly well-endowed teen.
Somehow, there's a huge disconnect.
Yes, we can have bucket-o-blood and yet we fear a single dirty word might warp the mind of some impressionable child, or whatever the excuse of the moment is. Makes it funnier considering it's on Spike.
I like that this topic came up at this exact second as I kinda wanted to blog about it myself.
My current observation: Rambo (2009) is on Spike right now. Pretty much all the gore and blood and death and gibblets are accounted for as far as I can tell. And yet the second someone tries to drop and F-bomb, bam! Split-second mute.
Yeah, there were so many shows that attempted to copy some element of MythBusters, but pretty much all have failed.
Survivorman officially ended sometime... last year I think. Not sure if Man vs. Wild is over or just on hiatus, although Bear Gryls is doing that Worst Case Scenario show right now.

The survival thing seems to have taken a bit longer to catch on, but I think Discovery is trying to broaden the offerings. Look at MythBusters - after that took off, they made Crash Lab (I think it was?), which failed miserably. I'm fairly confident Survivorman and Man vs. Wild will stick to being their staples.
...Or are those two done with? dang, I need to watch more TV. *lolirony*

@Pleiades Rising:
That is the best concept for a TV show I've ever heard ever.
