I'm not sure. I kinda sounds like an arbitrary decision, but I'm not sure. Hmm. Okay, If itss a single physical book composed of say, four previously published book, then I think you could count that as four. I have one book like that, composed of five books, and each book deals with its own topic (though related enough to collect them in one).
So yeah, I'd count it as a single work if it was originally published as such.
Yeah, reading the McCaffrey book felt odd. It just felt so far removed from what's familiar, and it was hard to determine the true motives of the characters, so I couldn't relate to anything or anyone very easily. I'll probably read more, but I'll take my time about it.
Yes, I want to read the whole series. :) I also want to go back and tackle The Sword of Truth books by Terry Gooodkind again. I only got halfway through the fourth book the first time around. I have several fantasy series I'm interested in. :)

I think it's great you've given yourself a goal of reading period. And oh! The Eye of the World is a great book! Are you planning to read more of the Wheel of Time? It's definitely a series you can get sucked into.

I have recommendations if you ever need them. I can recommend a steampunk-y, firefly-like space pirate book, or a magical assassin (not assassin's apprentice, i stopped reading when they killed the dog in like the first chapter).
I read Anne McCaffrey in high school and I liked it then, but these days they're too bland for me.
But it isn't a bad thing. I'm sure you're like me and really savor each word. I read each line and imagine what's going on...so it takes longer than just speed-reading and getting the gist of it. ^^;
Unless manga is included, I don't think I could do this. >> I'm a pretty slow reader. Takes me at least 2-3 weeks to read one book...around 500-ish pages. I mean, I don't know if that's slow, but it seems so to me. XD

Yeah, that's another one I want to get around too. Not sure I can read two complex fantasy series at one time though. ^^

Well you can join the rest of the fantasy mob in reading and watching Game of Thrones. =P The Song of Ice and Fire is an amazing series.

True. But I also don't want them to take forever since I've set myself this challenge. ^^

I know how you feel. My current book is 782 pages, and I'm in my third week of it. I wish I could read much faster sometimes. >>
