Watch it, youngster! The 80s was "my" decade for music! XD
Like you've been informed, not all of the music of the 80s was crap. It just seems like it. Shin listed lots of good stuff that came out of the 80s. Some of it, I hated back then, but enjoy now: Metallica & Nirvana both come to mind. However, I see both of them as 90s music more than 80s.
I have to admit that I have truly eclectic tastes when it comes to music. I can be listening to 60s folk music and follow it with some good, hard Rob Zombie. Yes, this 43 year old female likes Rob Zombie. (Just don't make me look at him for very long.)
So... don't completely write off the 80s as a decade of deplorable music. Please.

I think because of the ridiculousness of the fashion and other music trends, and the fact that, due to MTV, the most horrid pop music could be heard on radio AND television, the '80s get a really bad rap as a musical decade. The '80s didn't have more crappy music than any other decade -- it was just more visible.
Tons of great bands got their start in or did great work in the '80s: Eurhythmics (as Timber mentioned), Depeche Mode, Sonic Youth, Pixies, New Order, Siouxsie and the Banshees, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, The Jesus and Mary Chain, David Bowie's awesome cheesy '80s stage, Cocteau Twins, My Bloody Valentine, Michael Jackson when he was the undisputed God of Pop instead of a creepy kiddy fiddler, R.E.M., "Weird Al" Yankovic, Metallica, Faith No More, The Cure, Nine Inch Nails, They Might Be Giants, Bon Jovi, Dinosaur Jr., Prince, Soundgarden, Beastie Boys, Guns 'N' Roses, Alice in Chains, Nirvana, and on and on and on.
All down to personal taste, of course, but that is a pretty good lineup, I'd say. :)

I love 80s music One of my favorite bands Chromeo is awesome because of their 80s style beats. Also there were a lot of great punk bands in the day. I actually fo remember Queensryche as a matter of fact. Don't much about them though I guess that's where this post comes in.

I'm not really familiar with a lot of 80's music. I'm sure Shin has it right though.

I think Shin said it best...

So quoted for truth. :p that and I was a teenager in the 80's so naturally I have fond memories of the music from that era. ^_^
In the name of the tune I will punish you!

I never said I hated all of it, I just have a low opinion of most of it. But hey, that's only my opinion. ^^
