My first mp3 player was a 2 GB Zen Stone by Creativ. It's nice, and iTunes isn't necessary for it. It has its own software included on it. It works like an iPod Shuffle in that there's no screen to tell you what song you're on. I'm pretty sure that Creativ has other types of players that do let you know what you're listening too. I just got mine for cheap at WalMart last summer.
Now I've got a 120 GB iPod Classic. I went for capacity more than anything. It's got more space than my laptop! The only thing I've heard about the Zune was not very favorable toward the manner of how you get your music from Microsoft. It was in some article I read right after they came out. I don't remember exactly what was said, but the guy seriously didn't like it.
Well, whatever you choose is going to be the best for you, I know. Just enjoy it!
Well, I never could carry my laptop around, because A) It isn't all that light, and B) It makes a lot of noise and heat when it's on.
An mp3 player really is the best thing when you just want to take your music with you wherever your go. ^^ Especially if you have almost 22GB worth of music and you'd like to be able to have a substantial amount of it available at any one time.
I used to carry around a bunch of CDs too. I was that weird girl with the retro Pokemon CD case and the fickle portable CD player. Then I got my laptop. ^_^' It's like my own version of an mp3 player, except I use it more than just music purposes. In fact, I'm hardly ever on it without music playing.
...but in all honesty, I have no idea about them mp3 players--only that my brothers are always plugging theirs into my laptop. I think they have cheapo SanDisk ones. I don't care. *shrugs*
Well I am thinking that if you have a older Ipod, that they could have made improvements on the battery.
So I would just go with another Ipod, I haven't had any trouble with it.
You know that someone truly cares when they brick you like that. -AZ
I've only ever used an iPod. I've had my lil' green nano for... a year? Maybe two. But it's treated me well without too many problems. So unfortunately I can't tell you anything about other brands. Sorry, TC!
You can never have too many books if you read them all. C;
Anyway, no suggestions on the music. I have an older mp3 player that still works great so I've never bothered to pick up an iPod or anything like that.
I buy too many books as well, considering I work at a bookstore where I receive 33% off of basically everything. I've read the first chapter of Fairy Cube and have been seriously considering reading the rest. Very good, I think.
Though I did not buy my ipod (was given it as a hand-me-down by Twisted) I love Shino (and yes, I also named my iod). He's really old and still has very few problems. He holds a crapton of music and the itunes library on Twisted's computer is just so ginormous that I can have basically any song I want on Shino.
Like Twisted, however, I know next to nothing about other mp3s thus I can't really give you a good alternative. My point simply is that my ipod is the awesome and I'm very sorry your's isn't ideal for you. I definitely recommend something with more capacity, though I'm sure you've already decided that for yourself.
The 3 females in my house all have ipods: Mum has a shuffle, Shika has an almost 4-yr old 2nd gen color ipod I abused heavily at work (dropping, crushing, freezing, poor thing - the last time it fell was onto concrete that forced the faceplate almost completely off) but that still functions with nearly no glitches, and then I have a video ipod that replaced the one I gave to Shika.
Seeing as I use it at work and have seen how dependable and durable the ipods I've gotten have been, that's what I plan to stick with in the future.Perhaps the newest or smallest ones are prone to problems, but my goal is capacity and I don't really care if it does much more than play music, since that's all I can do while working. I also use itunes to manage my music and probably would continue to do so even if something happened to my dear Kakashi (yes, I named him ^^). The new Genius feature where itunes creates custom playlists based off information (voluntarily) gathered from thousands of itunes users is pretty amazing too.
I'm completely biased in this regard, since I've neither owned nor read up on the competition, but my ipods have treated me well, and I would recommend at least the exact models we own to anyone.

I had a Creativ for a number of years, and it did work very well. I did, however, switch to iPod and never looked back. I have interactive dictionaries and phrasebooks on it in addition to movies and music, so that I always can look up and hear things in other languages if I need to (which I really need for Vietnam).
Only iPods can be set up to do that. But if all you need is music, Creativ would work well too.
PS: Ears dong much better. Want to talk sometime?

I gotta go with creative, I'm the proud owner of a creative Zen microphoto, it's lasted me two years, survived THOUSANDS of falls. Mine's an 8 gig, so they make 'em big enough for you, and some of the newer models can play videos and stuff. Also, there's one model they just came out with that looks pretty cool and has a built in stereo.
Ooh please tell me how Fairy Cube is! I have been wanting to read that manga series! It seems to have a good story to it and the art is really beautiful^^ Have fun reading! Books are ♥ ^_^
Hmm...I would suggest the Creative Labs mp3 players, I have heard they have very good quality mp3 players^^ Also SanDisk might be good s well. ^_^

I own almost 350 CDs. =P
Of course, having an mp3 player is easier to use than toting around a portable CD player (and believe me, I used to do that and it was cumbersome). ^^

Too many books? NEVER! That's just not possible. Honestly, I'd own the library if I could. >_> I never get tired of reading.
Anyway, I don't know much about iPods and stuff so good luck with that.
Also, Merry Christmas you. ^_^

I have been recommended towards the Creativ brand of mp3 players. Much cheaper than the iPod or Zune, and apparently just as good quality.
