Oof. That sucks so much. I'd be pretty pissed by now but heh thats me.
Maybe its time to upgrade? I know, its expensive but it could save you from trouble again, well, at least for awhile.
I'm pretty sure this is a repeat of the first comment I ever typed on your blog: Computers are like Satan. Whether you want to or not, you have to face them every day. >.<

Oh man, you know my PC is acting up too, as I'm typing this. Dang it, with this I've just been convinced to buy a Mac as soon as I can. I have a class in college where I'm learning how to use, build, and maintain Macs and my professor is a Mac nut, and from everything she's shown me I have to say PCs are bleh. Did you know that PC's are using processor chips from over 20 years ago even now? When the Mac changed it's chips to a faster one for each generation? Did I also mention macs don't need anti virus?
Anyway about the problems I would say system restore but you say it isn't giving you the option? Not even the option to just go back to the last working condition it was in? That's all I had to for mine when it crashed I was able to keep everything pretty much except the stuff that caused it to crash. What I'd do is buy a new hard drive and put all the old files into it, go to a PC repair shop they can probably do it for you. Plus with a new drive you'd probably have more space and all, I mean I know I would buy a drive with more storage if I were to buy a new drive it would have more storage. Or if you don't go through all that putting in a new drive stuff buy an external one and put all your files into that then you won't have to worry about wiping the old on clean because all you'd have to do is plug in the external and import all your old files again.

I know the pain, I had to completely reboot my computer again just recently. Pain in the ass.

Ugh man, that really sucks. It's always the worst when it comes down to computer restoring...good luck with it, and I hope you don't lose too much.
I'd rather see in shades of gray.
