Kyrachan's Top 80 Countdown

70 - 61

70. AnoHana OP - "Aoi Shoiri"

TV Version

I don't think about AnoHana that often, to be honest. I watched it years ago and haven't bothered to seek out any merchandise or to rewatch it since then. Still, when I watch this opening, all of the emotions start to come back. Geoff's breakdown of it also contribute to the realization of how good this opening is.

69. Trigun OP - "H.T."

TV Version

This song is absolutely perfect to play air guitar to. The guitar is just so good. On top of that, the animation is great, showing off both Vash's serious side and his adorkable side. It all adds up to a fantastic opening.

68. Ajin OP - "Yoru wa Numureru Kai?"

TV Version | Full Version

The lyrics to this opening this fit the anime so perfectly. It really adds to the feeling of being chased, of being exhausted, of just wanting to rest. I mean, heck, every time I find myself wanting to take a nap, but not being able to (like, at work), I sing to myself "Ima wa tada nemuritai!" (All I want to do right now is sleep!) That's not to say the rest of the opening doesn't deserve merit. Even though most of the animation is cut from the actual anime, the way it's edited together is still high-energy and works with the beat, and the rest of the song is great, too.

67. Space Dandy OP - "Viva Namida"

TV Version | Full Version

Time for something a little more groovy, baybeh. Though so many people sing the praises of Cowboy Bebop's and Samurai Champloo's opening, I still like this one the best. It just carries that perfect funk and bright, colorful animation. It makes me want to throw on a pompadour and sail space's seven seas, living among the stars, collecting rare aliens... in space.

66. Ranpo Kitan ED - "Mikazuki"

TV Version

In this anime, they introduce the idea that half of all criminals that commit some series crime, half of them walk free afterwards due to various reasons, such as the insanity plea. Now, I don't know how true that statistic is, but I do know that, since then, every time I hear of a criminal not getting his dues, whether in real life or in another anime, I come back to this song and this ending. Even though the anime argues against vigilantism, this song can work as such as a catharsis for the feeling of wanting to become one.

65. Free! OP - "Rage On"

TV Version | Full Version

It's summer and HOLY HECK I WANNA GO SWIMMING. This opening doesn't help, either. This opening is filled with summer vibes and water and water. And water. Holy cow, I want to go swimming. That is all.

64. Wolf’s Rain ED - "Gravity"

TV Version |
Full Version

Something that isn't shown here--this ending cycles. The linked version shows Kiba running in front of the moon, so the next would show the sunrise, the next during the day, and the next the sunset. That alone makes it super cool and fascinating. Add in the absolutely beautiful, yet sorrowful song, and it makes an ending that always fun to watch/listen to.

63. Nana OP 1 - "Rose"

TV Version | Full Version

This song has such importance in this anime. It's sung in happy times, and it's sung in very, very sad times. There's even a heart-wrenching background track that plays with its melody. Listening to it right now brings back tears. Add in the gorgeous visuals, and it adds for the perfect first opening to this soul-ripping anime.

62. Gurren Lagann ED 3 - "Minna no Piisu"

TV Version | Full Version

I said last year that if someone throws the words "love" "rock" and "peace" at me enough, then that's reason alone for me to love it, and I guess that's still true this year. This ending perfectly embodies all the important parts of Gurren Lagann - believing in yourself, love and peace, but still having fun. It's such an entertaining ending and the perfect one to send off the series on.

61. Tatami Galaxy ED - "Kami-sama no Iu Tori"

TV Version | Full Version

The lyrics to this song are absolutely fantastic. The story of love and loss it tells is memorable, and it's so much fun to sing along to. On top of that, the animation of the tatami mats are just so smooth and engaging that, despite its simple nature, it's hard to not want to watch it at the end of every episode.
