60 - 51
60. Mob Psycho 100 OP - "99"
"If everyone is not special, maybe you can be what you want to be." Geoff Thu placed this opening at the top of the openings of 2016, and while I may not know all the context behind it like he does, it's not hard to figure out why he loved it so much. The animation is smooth, with nearly no hard cuts, each moment leading right into the next. On top of that the lyrics work so well with the themes of hard work and self-discovery that Mob Psycho 100. Who knew counting could be so catchy?
59. Arslan Senki OP 2 - "Uzu to Uzu"
In the past I've had the first opening to Arslan Senki take this place. Well, I guess it's time to shake things up a little. It's not as if this opening isn't fantastic, either. That quick shifting of morning to sunset to night at the beginning is a shot I've always loved. The action scenes are always great, and the final declaration of moving forward at the end is inspiring and perfect for the show.
58. Fate/Stay Night UBW OP 2 - "Brave Shine"
Sometimes you got to give perfection its due, and, well, this opening is near perfect. The animation is absolutely on point, moves so smoothly, and is absolutely gorgeous. On top of that, unlike other openings in the Fate franchise, the song is something memorable, something you can sing along to. This opening definitely deserves its spot.
57. Gurren Lagann OP 2 - "Sorairo Days"
https://track3.mixtape.moe/jmeitn.webm | Full Version
All roads lead to Gurren Lagann, so it's no surprise that its opening would appear on here, too. I absolutely love the arc that comes after the 7-year jump, the development Rossiu goes through, and the thrill that comes with it all. This opening brings that all into a beautiful little package while still paying homage to the first opening by doing a different verse of the same song, and for that, I love it.
56. JJBA Diamond is Unbreakable OP 3 - "Great Days"
TV Version | Full Version (Er, spoilers)
Before Diamond is Unbreakable, I liked JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. After DiU, I love JJBA. The characters are more likable, the powers are better, and the openings are, well, more catchy. I love the old-ish vibe that this song gives off, how it feels so much like it belongs in the time frame the anime takes place. It's so upbeat and fun. Not to mention the later versions of the opening which... change things, as JoJo tends to do. Overall, a remarkable opening.
55. Kuroshitsuji: Book of Circus ED - "Aoki Tsuki Michite"
I freakin' love Kuroshitsuji. This should be pretty-well known by now, so it's not surprising that this made the list, it would be surprising if it didn't. While it's not as high as it was last year, it still gives me chills with the details and the dark, emotional symbolism. Not to mention the beautiful song that fits perfectly with Kuroshitsuji's aesthetic.
54. Barakamon ED -- "Innocence"
When I first saw this ending, it took my breath away. When I first saw the lyric video, it made me cry. Of course, I might be biased because it reminds me of when a couple of my book characters were young, but that's part of why it means so much to me. It perfectly fits the adventure and love of an person my age becoming attached to a little kid. It works so well for the show, and I love it so dang much.
53. Drifters OP - "Gospel of the Throttle"
You gotta give a really catch song the credit it deserves. This song is just so much fun to sing along and it works really well for bringing up the hype for the show. Add in the great, sketch-style animation, and it develops into a unique, energetic opening for a fantastic show.
52. xxxHolic OP - "19sai"
This opening has made it onto every single one of my top opening lists. Every. Single. One. And there's good reason for it, too--the animation, though not mind-blowing, is just mysterious and sensual enough to draw you in. The song and lyrics follow suit. It's like a mysterious woman who seems to be seducing you from across the room. Like Yuko. And that's what makes it so perfect for this show.
51. Gankutsuou ED - "You Won't See Me Coming"
TV Version (seizure warning... like, really) | Full Version
This ending is quite the trip. The visuals are constantly flashing before you, throwing you little bits and pieces so fast you're never quite sure of what you just saw. On top of that it has a loud, hardcore song that perfectly shows the anger and desire of revenge from the Count. Overall, a weird, crazy, yet quite enjoyable ending.
