Eh, I got a friend like that too. But she's incredibly annoying in the fact that she absolutely refuses to watch the older animes because 'they're old'. I tried to tell her about Trigun, which I just recently watched through (when I was little I could watch Rurouni Kenshin swordfights but hand someone a gun and I was scared...go child logic XD ) and LOVED. I couldn't stop watching it! And it takes a lot for me to do that now. But nope. She wouldn't even check it out because of when it came out. And she just complains about how old it is. Her idea of an anime is Shugo Chara. It's cute, but honestly the anime is geared for elementary kids and I just don't feel the strong attachment she does to it.
ha ha me too! I hated dragon ball z when i was a kid. I recently watched a whole season and loved it! Same with Yu-gi-oh. my parents hated that show cause when i started watching it I started getting in fights at school... but I watched it again and the nostalgia almost killed me...
but I have a friend who LOVES those kinds of flat animes. it really kills me to see one of my best friends go "look at this anime!!! isn't it just SO PRETTY" and i'm kind of like.... does it have anything besides the pretty?
It's like any other market now. People realized that a few good series were making it big, jumped the bandwagon with something to earn them insta cash, and are reaping it in with the younger generation. And the younger generation adores the American rip off of anime and isn't at all bothered by the extreme censorship and alterations made to series coming over here like One Piece. Actually, as far as companies over here care, children are more willing to watch a 'cartoon' and if they water a series down enough they'll get more viewers instead of just leaving it at its adult market.
Also, lot of stuff just doesn't seem to have 'heart' put into it. It's why I've been rewatching older series and have been a more picky anime fan as I got older.
Well, I believe it's more the difference between something more shounen, and something more shojou (if i spelled them wrong, its early in the morning, Lily has an excuse).
Obviously a shojou like Kamichama Karin is gonna be all fluffy and cute. It's Koge-Donbo. I saw the anime, and I liked the books much more. The Manga had intense plot compared to the anime. Like Pita-Ten, THE MANGA WAS SO AMAZING AND COMPLETELY MISERABLE, and the anime looked like it was geared towards little kids...
I sort of agree, and sort of disagree on the matter. A lot of it is probably apealing to the masses as well. Why do you think they actually bother with Twilight? Little teenagered girls with no sense in their heads will watch it. Perhaps it is the same problem here. *shrug*
Wah! You bad mouth Kamichama Karin! I must admit I've only read two books, but I like Koge Donbo's art. Have you ever read Pita-ten? (Also by Koge Donbo) The manga is wonderful. The art is gorgeous and the plot is solid. The anime however...Bleh. It was a disaster.
Monster, Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood, Gundam 00, Eureka Seven, Clannad, Honey and Clover, Toradora...these anime are all very good with plotlines, character development, and conclusions. Do you still hate new anime? Also, Tenchi in Tokyo sucks....just sayin'

Back in my day, anime characters had eyes of relative craziness. These days, these crazy kids have them the size of a fist. Honestly, I remember back when I was watching Dragonball Z and we waited patiently for "Rock the Dragon" and some crappy puns! And Pokemon! Pokemon had some kind of a plot rather than a repetition of crazy instances and there cows and guns in that show! And another thing...! *trails off in rant*
