To be honest I could use some help on simplifying my introduction in my world. I would like to figure out a way to keep my links and my banner but I'd like to simplify my profile or the information about me. Is there a way I can accomplish this?
Hmm, I think that should be fine. *does some math* You'll end up with 2200 pixels on one side, so it's fine. ^^
Photoshop's resizing tool is usually really good. I'd suggest that you don't enlarge pictures. Enlarging pictures always makes them pixelated, so it's better to start with a larger picture and then shrink it. I'm not sure, though, why it becomes compressed for you when you shrink it....if worst comes to worst, try using GIMP. It's like a free version of Photoshop, so you should be able to adapt to it quickly.
I do have other questions! In regard to scanning a drawing, what about PPI (I think that's what it's called). My scanner usually scans at 200 pixels per inch. Is that fine or should it be more?
As for resizing the image, what I meant was that when I shrink an image, even with scaling, the image compresses. If I want to resize it to make it larger, it looks all pixel-y. Is there a way to avoid that? (I hope I used the right terminology and that my question makes sense.)
Call it karma. Call it luck. Me, I just don't give a... BOUNCE!
Hey there! Thanks so much for dropping by and taking a look at this world! ^^
I'd recommend having your drawings be a min. of 2000x1700 pixels. This can allow for you to shrink the image. I've found that shrinking images allows them to have higher quality than to enlarge them. One of the most important thing to wallpapers is having them have good quality. As for making them look well with a digital background, I'd recommend using a pattern for the background, instead of some picture. One of my favorite pattern sites is patternlovers. Definitely check that out sometime. :D Also, you can look around on theO for wallpapers that had their backgrounds completely designed by the makers, instead of being taken from a scan. I, for one, have a few in which I had created my own background. Usually in doing so, the style of the background won't clash with your drawing's style.
I've never really done vectoring as it's a long process that I don't like to bother with. One of my friends, Hanako Sho, is quite good at it, and I'm sure she'd love to help you out.
GIMP is my program of choice, but it is very similar to photoshop. When resizing an image, make sure you scale it. Have the height change proportionally to the width. Many times, those worser-quality images were created because the images were stretched, instead of being scaled.
If you have any more questions, feel free to ask me! I'd be happy to help anytime~! :D
I just came across this world (linked from the Artist Cubby), and I found your lessons very informative. I'd like to make my own wallpapers someday (and maybe some better ecards), and there are a few things that I'd like to learn.
First, how do I make a wallpaper out of one of my drawings? What resolution do my scanned images need to be? How can I make my drawings look better against a digital background?
Second, what, if anything, do you know about vectoring? I know that it makes images much better-looking and less pixelated. I have some basic vectoring skills, so if you have any tips I'd appreciate that.
Also, I don't know if Photoshop is your program of choice, but that's what I have. I was wondering how to resize an image in Photoshop without making it look ugly. I've never used another image editing program, so I don't know how similar/different they all are.
Call it karma. Call it luck. Me, I just don't give a... BOUNCE!
Sure! I'll make a tutorial soon on e-cards, then. ^^
What do you mean by the pen tool, though? For my wallpapers and e-cards, I don't use any pen tool...and my program only has the paintbrush, pencil, and calligraphy pen for writing by hand...
this world is awesome!! thankyou sooo much!! "hugs" i learnt quite a lot!! um..can you help me with pen tool? i really cant figure out how to use it..i cant see any videos in youtube on pentool because its blocked in my college T.T...pretty pretty please..i need a lil help on my cards too..nobody seems to like them.T.T..i really dont know why no one likes them..could you check them out (if you have time) and point out my mistakes..plz
Hey Lea! Thanks for all the help you've given me so far!! You world has really been a life-saver^^ Just one thing... do you know any online editing programs where i can overlay a texture on my image? I don't have any programs downloaded on my computer since its really sensitive with viruses and such. So I usually just use picnik.com but it doesn't give me enough editing tools. If you have any advice let me know^^ Thanks so much! <3
EDIT: Its alright, Lea! I actually found how to overlay textures on my image on one of my online editors! Thanks again for all your help, and for making this world! :D I'll let you know if I have other questions! :D

Oh, I saw your e-cards and realized some of your mistakes. ^^
Would you mind if I use some of them in my world to point them out?
