YEAH, I DON'T GET IT!! Does their brain just go, "OH YEAH, CERULEAN WOULD LOOK GREAT RIGHT THERE UNDER THE ARMPIT YEP" or something??? ;A; Never understand....
I know...this person...they are probably best colorist (???) I have ever seen. I look at their stuff and I'm like 'HOW DID YOU KNOW THAT COLOUR GOES THERE IN THAT WAY'...and then my head melts because it doesn't understand.
Thanks so much for the tips!! ;0; And the gorgeous picturessss ghghghhaghg♥♥♥ *3* I'M ALWAYS SO JEALOUS OF PEOPLE WHO ARE AMAZING AT COLORING. HOW DO THEY DO IT...
I like how you drew the koopa kids! They look stylistically adorable! *3*
That chibi of Noland reminds me of my....wait...I dunno what to call him? Literature portion of Academic Team coach even though I ended up doing Arts and Humanities...Maybe a friend who happens to be a teacher...who is actually a Biology teacher and not an English teacher...But anyways, I feel like that is something he would also say about English! 'tis so weird how much it looks like him! O.O 'cause he wears the same clothes....O.O
Hrmmm...soft shading in SAI...I haven't used SAI for years and it IS quite difficult to soft shade in there...but I think it is possible for me to explain how I would do it. Basically you make a sketch of what you want with thick lines, then make a layer on top and redo it and add in all the details with thinner lines. The thinner lines you can also use as shading. Go back and add in the color and the shadows undeneath the thinner lined sketch layer. Use the paint drop techinique. I think you press alt or something to get the color dropper thing? And then you do that on the very edge of a brush stroke of shading that you want to put in there or to fade out a bit more, but one where you can see a combination of the two colors. And then keep shading from there.
Here are some good SAI coloring walkthroughs that I've seen on pixiv (sorry, I don't know if you can actually open any of them):
