Mario lore doesn't really have the most defined canon to begin with, his design is versatile and suits the role of a Blue Collar worker so he slips into any role the game or show demands.

That sounds like a very strange OVA. XD (I mean, they broke their own lore by making Mario a convenience store worker!)
