Ran Mouri is the Most Tortured Heroine in Anime

Detective Conan's leading lady has had her fair share of angst over the years.

Ran is the childhood friend of Shinichi Kudo and more than frequently the damsel but not always depending on the level of danger, she's the best example of a damsel done right as she's the one who can best measure the threat levels, a simple purse snatcher will get a beat down but a determined assassin not so much, but the fact that she badly misses Shinichi Kudo makes her ordeals all the more tortuous culminating in some of the series more tender moments with some of the highlights including a love confession while taking control of a plane about to crash, she's also not immune to brain fade as some of her lesser moments got herself in avoidable danger. Ran is in this character dead zone where no one can really place her character compared to say more well known anime heroines, she's kinda just there so it's kinda no surprise that Haibara is viewed in a better light but more on her another time
