Indeed, these sorts of levels are made so that no controller input is required beyond pushing the button to enter. You could totally suck at the actual game and still be able to make one of these. So they're impressive in their design rather than execution.
These are similar to tool-assisted speedruns, which also require little actual skill at the game in question but can take a lot of planning and experimentation (and usually a lot of patience) to make. I find them a lot of fun to watch, as well, even if I know much of what's done in them isn't humanly possible in real time gameplay. If you want to see what I mean, the current fastest Super Mario World TAS is on YouTube.
Like Timber more or less mentions, the last one is the (powerfully out of tune) Japanese folk song "Sakura".
Everything else, I dunno . . . in general, though, I think the point of these videos is that you don't actually HAVE to play the game to pull it all off. Like, the levels were designed in such a way that basically external forces are what keep Mario running (or sliding) through the levels. Either way, though, crazy amount of planning and stuff.
Annnd . . . I'm content to just watch and not make my own, I think.
