Yeah, you're right, it's not uncommon at all. Heck, Star Wars borrows a lot of stuff from old Samurai movies. Like they say, everything good has already been written.
Sorry if it pushed buttons. 'Twas meant in jest, and I understand how it can get annoying when you end up hearing nothing but the same criticisms of something over and over.

Who cares? Ya, in terms of story, Avatar is Pocahontas. I figured that much out 20 minutes into the move. The thing is, it doesn't matter. The amazing thing about Avatar is the quality of the CG and special effects, not the plot.
Besides, seeing two different works of fiction with the same story isn't exactly unique. I had an English teacher once that said there are about 7 or 8 unique plots in fiction. After that, everything is one or more versions of those with different names and locations. One of the best examples of this is The Lion King, because it is Shakespeare's Hamlet. Want more? West Side Story is Romeo and Juliet. I honestly don't get why people think this is such a big deal.
p.s. sorry if I sound sort of crazy. Every one I know has been going off on this exact thing and I'm getting tired of it.

Aw heck, I knew something was fishy about that set-up. And yet it took Cameron 10 years to be able to put it all together? Balderdash; Dreamworks CG'd up 3 Shrek movies (well, maybe more like 3 1/2) in that time.
