Ug. Horror films are really not my thing... I can't handle films with a high age rating XD my poor mind just doesn't want to see too much adult/scary/gore stuff... Suspense is ok. I don't understand films like Saw. My mind is quite capable of producing nightmares after having just a normal day, haha I don't want to give it any extra help.
Scary movies (and even movies that I only thought would be scary) used to be awful for me. Now, I don't really get scared. I love horror movies, but the classics, the old black and white ones. Sometimes I'll watch the crap that's on SyFy because I like the awful effects, but the classics are the best. Yet I still can't make it through Signs because my best friend forced me to watch it in the dark back when I couldn't handle scary movies. Those aliens literally make me sick to my stomach.

Hmmm, I'd say I do enjoy scary movies, but mostly "psychological" ones. I really can't deal with insanely/pointlessly violent movies like Saw, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, etc., and I have no intention of seeing movies like that. "Horror" movies for me would be something by Alfred Hitchcock - i.e. Psycho, The Manchurian Candidate,The Birds, etc. I mean, they still contain their levels of violence (though by today's standards they're WAY more tame and a tad cheesy) but the storytelling behind them is superb, and the horror is, of course, on a psychological level.
I do recall being scared by The Sixth Sense and Signs when I was younger, though I think the "scary" part of Signs for me was the aliens, and after seeing it a second time a few years later it wasn't nearly as frightening but rather lame xD
As for anime/ manga, the only one I've read is Uzumaki, which was really freaking creepy. The artwork and general tone of the story was realistic which made it all the scarier, but it was a really enjoyable manga.
So in conclusion...yep, I suppose I do enjoy scary films/stories, it just depends on the quality and the content.
I'm not a fan of horror movies. ^^;; I can't stand any that involve ghosts or aliens...things like that. I can handle violent movies. For some reason, the only "horror" movies I can handle are the Saw ones lol!! I guess cause there's no ghosts in them. XDD But otherwise, I stay far away...
In anime though, I can handle more cause I know it's just anime. But things with real people...just...seem more real then lol!
I don't watch horror as much as I used to (even then, I didn't watch too much of that genre). However, there's some horror that I like, especially the ones that mess with your mind. I like those more than the ones that rely entirely on gore. One film that nicely balances both is Audition. That one really messed me up. Everyone I've shown it to has been bothered by it, haha!
That's exactly how I feel. Senseless death as a plot point, a motivation for characters is one thing, but senseless massacre as the entire plot... it just feels really wrong. :/
I'll watch certain suspense movies, but I tend to avoid horror movies on principal, actually. Any movie where the basic plot is, "WATCH THESE PEOPLE DIE HORRIFIC DEATHS," and claims to be entertainment is something that bothers me on a philosophical (for lack of a better word) level.
Also, I just don't get why people pay money to psych themselves out. o3o I'd rather spend it on a decent movie.
Heh, I saw the first episode of Elfen Lied once, and I've seen AMVs, but never watched the whole thing. Combine that with the fact that I totally lost interest in a lot of the dark stuff I was into a couple years ago and I've never bothered to try watching the rest of it. Maybe some day though. :)
I can get into psychological drama more than I can horror.
Really? Huh, even if the live-action stuff is just as physically impossible as the animated stuff, I find it more disturbing because the very fact that it's live, so it looks realistic enough to me. Interesting difference between us there.

The kind of horror I like is the atmospheric, the mind tripping, the suspense. Mainly something that isn't most American horror movies. My love is in the Asian style. They're not about the jump out and scream scary, they get into your head and make you scared of the room around you.
As for gore... I like them every so often. Though I'm offset from the norm, being highly desensitized to it.
Elfen Lied is a favorite guilty pleasure of mine. Twisted, gory, and yeah.

Yes, I love horror, and yes, I've been watching horror movies all day. Hooray!
Also, I've never really been bothered by most horror movie violence, because a lot of it looks really fake to me. Weirdly enough, I actually find animated violence far more disturbing.

Plus, really, I think some of the most effective horror is when it's left up to your imagination. Showcasing random acts of gore just kinda lessens the thrill, IMO.
I agree. X-Files did that a lot and always managed to creep me out so much I'd flip back and forth between channels until the moments of tension were over.

Ahh, so you really did post this. :3
And well, I'm pretty much with you. Animated violence is easier to take than live action, but... all the same, I prefer tamer things. Plus, I have an overactive imagination, and if I see stuff like that, I inevitably think about it too much, and yeah. ._.
