Probably the only reason why I became so passionate about this election (even though I'm a Filipino) was because Ron Paul was once a candidate. Even though he isn't a candidate anymore, I still had some passion left for this election, especially since a lot is really at stake. The US economy, the Iraq war, my country's economy, the US intervention in my country . . . it's just a lot. Don't expect me to be as passionate in 2012, though.
Here's to victory for the most deserving candidate.
I don't think Clinton and Obama were the first woman and first black presidential candidates, respectively. Back in 1984, black activist Jesse Jackson was one of Democratic candidates in the primaries; I guess he was the real first black candidate. As for female candidates, I'm not sure who's really first, although I somehow recall that in 2000, Elizabeth Dole was a Republican candidate.
But still, a black female candidate for President and little media coverage about it?! Not to mention the fact that the Green Party ticket is an all-female ticket.
As with Mask's old Ron Paul talk back in the day . . . I still find it incredibly amusing that possibly the most passionate person on theO about US politics and elections is in fact a guy in the Philippines.
You rock, Mask.
And yeah, what he said. I've said this a bunch of times already, but I'm reiterating: the rest of the world is watching you guys. Don't screw it up for us.
You know what, you've made a VERY interesting point. All this talk about a black president and a female president...even though they're given a choice that's both, mainstream media doesn't give a damn. But then again, ever since their treatment of Ron Paul last year I have lost much of my respect and trust for mainstream media.
Well, by legitimate I mean that they have ballot access in several states (including D.C.) that, when its respective electoral votes are combined, is enough for them to win the presidency.
BALLOT ACCESS: Obama/Biden - 51 states (538 possible electoral votes) McCain/Palin - 51 states (538 p.e.v.) Nader/Gonzalez - 46 states + 4 "write-in" states (456-531 p.e.v.) Barr/Root - 45 states + 2 "write-in" states (503-510 p.e.v.) Baldwin/Castle - 37 states + 12 "write-in" states (318-516 p.e.v.) McKinney/Clemente - 32 states + 17 "write-in" states (368-528 p.e.v.) Moore/Alexander - 8 states + 30 "write-in" states (102-338 p.e.v.)

Hm, so Obama is the first African American to run for president, hm?
Clinton is the first woman to run for president, hm?
We have an African American woman over there running as well.
What the fudge, people.
Dumb-ass media...

What amuses me is that we seem to have a black female candidate for president in the Green party over there, and yet the media doesn't care at all.
I mean, wow. That's such an easily polarisable angle that now no media can claim they are unbiased ever again.
And we're a collective bunch of suckers. =P Hooray, cynicism.

Wait, a legitimate chance to win the presidency? You have about five candidates too many, buddy.
