It's amazing how you guys debate over whether it should be called "soda" or "pop". We Filipinos never call it "soda" or "pop"; we call them "softdrinks". And by comparing it with your lingo, it somehow makes me feel proud of my heritage.
Also having grown up in California, it has always been "soda" to me! Now in Ohio, I'm always amused to hear people call it "pop" or see it listed as such on a menu.
But when I'm in Texas, everyone calls it "coke." Regardless of brand or flavor. O_o
Illinois seems to be a mixed bag. I call it soda, lots of other people call it soda, but some call it pop. And whenever someone tries to say "soda pop", they got knocked done.
"What are you like, four?" I agree with that sentiment.
The natives here in WV call it "pop", I call it "soda" but I'm not sure where that came from given I'm not a WV native. Could be from Texas where I lived, could be my Mom's New Jersey talking. Once in a while I'll run into someone here who calls it soda, more often than not, they moved to the area from somewhere else though.
There are the rarer breed who call anything carbonated seltzer as well. I only met one such person, but that was interesting.

I've heard both so I don't really think about it. o_O I tend to use soda, but I'm fine with pop since it's the same thing.

I don't really care to tell the truth. I just use whatever everyone else does.

So it's your fault that Washington calls it pop! Canada spread its evil seed! :O

Vancouver, much like the rest of Canada, calls it pop.

Yes, like Timber, I blame Faygo. ^_^'
I used to call soda pop "pop" until a while back. Now I have the tendency to use "soda", "pop" and "soda pop" interchangeably. Weird, eh?
Ah... that commercial brought back so many memories...

I go with whatever everyone else is using. Usually, i just call 'em by brand name or whatever. or just use "drink."
