Yep yep. And what's worse is that people sometimes refuse to accept what's going on in the world around them because their mind just automatically blocks whatever isnt' pretty. It's out of the norm for them, so they deviate from it. That's why not alot of people are actually aware of the facts of child labor, genocide in darfur, etc... I hope that by posting these little snippets up here on TheO, people like you will read them and spread the news. Awareness is the first step to helping any situation. Thanks so much for taking the time to read and respond. It means so much to me. At least one other person in this world is more aware. The more the better! :]
Going along with the child prostitution thing, I was watching a news program where the news team went to Cambodia, and people were selling the girls (it does happen to guys, but not nearly as often) to richer older men who came from places like American and other well developed countries. I think the youngest of the kids was maybe five years old. Imagine that, some little five year old that you know suddenly is getting sold to some crazy, sleaze-ball older man for sex. Most of these girls didn't even have a say in their "job", they were sold by their parents to earn money, or they were forced into the job with the owners threatening to kill the girl's (or boy's) family members if she (or he) didn't follow the rules.
You make several great points. I may be against it, but how else are those kids able to earn money? If their parents are extremely poor, and they have several kids in their family, they are going to have to work. And one of the few places where they can work is in those clothing factories.
Basically, I don't think this problem can ever really completely be solved. But the best solution is to just get better conditions in the factories that these kids have to work in. There will almost always be child laborers, it's true, and horrible things often happen to these kids, like lost limbs, going blind, etc. Even if those things do happen to kids, the number of kids working isn't going to go down. We just simply need better conditions in those factories.
I hope I didn't sounds completely stupid as I wrote that, and at least one person is able to understand what I am saying.
