they probably think that just from what your dad told them more then likely xpx;; I'm fairly certain once all this blows over, his side of the family is gonna think less of me.
here's the real kicker though: my dad's like this when he's sober xpx;; or well.. had too much to drink. there's a fine line of when he starts drinking that he can actually hold a half way intelligent conversation.
anyways I don't think it has anything to do with redeeming failures n' whatnots for him. (even though he's repeatedly told me his terrible stories of how he dropped out of collage, and how tennis was his big thing, and how -like my artwork- his tennis will never get him anywhere either.) I've always felt kinda--umm... put off by him just on the grounds that I was a girl x_x; yes that's right. We aren't boys, so he sorta treated us badly cause of it (I'm fairly certain of this too) I think this is partly why I'm just an advid gamer and into computers and electronics BECAUSE he treated us more like boys than anything >> well moreso with me then cloud.
and yes I do realize he could be reading these posts but I doubt it zpz; lol
Ack...part of that sounds like my dad when he's had a little too much to drink. Apparently if I'm 'too stupid to redeem his failures by graduating in engineering I'm supposed to become a english teacher'. ._.;
Well, to be honest wht I had read a economic book that said specifically what helps people looking for careers in the art feild is purely creativity. It was a fairly new book. And you are very creative. That's what makes your art awesome. You're a talented artist with loads of creativity :3
And don't pay any mind to what your dad's side may think. My dad's side is under the impression that I'm a Satan worshipping, air headed heathen for some odd...reason. No idea how they even GOT that impression of me considering I go to church, was baptised, and am in college O_o;
you're welcome! grandparents, huh? ok... I just assumed you were with your father. when my parents split up, it wasn't a legal separation, so there was no required visitation or anything. I'm really glad too... sometimes I couldn't even stand to look at one or the other of my parents, whichever one was causing me grief at the time. :p they seemed to take turns... lol! the only thing to do is laugh about it. it's better than the alternative...
I know my share of real world trolls too- ppl whose only purpose seems to be to cause trouble. fortunately, you can usually hear their mouth-breathing and knuckle-dragging and smell the stench before you see them, so you know they're coming. rofl!
lol thanks xpx but even if I didn't move in with mom, he still really didn't have much of a way to harass me because I had been living with my grandparents (now just grandmother) at the time. In fact, the only way he could harass me was through the required visitations we had every week.
And anyways, a "real world troll" is what sums him up pretty well zpz but thanks for the encouragement >O>!
as I was thinking about this dilemma, I actually burst out laughing. I'll tell you why. I remember you posting in here that you went to live with your mom back in the spring. ever since then, your father hasn't had you within easy reach so he can mess with you. so he found out he could cause you trouble by trolling Facebook. (it took him all this time to figure that out, too.) and because you weren't aware of his handiwork, he actually felt compelled to e-mail you and point it out. and he thinks your "hobby" isn't going anywhere... rofl!! there's something seriously wrong in his personal life if he gets his jollies from badmouthing his own daughter. if this is the kind of crap you were putting up with from him, you were right to leave. you deserve better.
as for your art, if your father truly wants to encourage you to be great, he needs to lift you up, not push you down. your art reminds me of the creatures in some of the best movies I've ever seen. ppl go places with that kind of talent.
I know about toxic family relationships, trust me. I've seen all kinds of bizarre behavior. I could write a book if I thought their antics were worth the paper to print it on, lol. what those kinds of relatives want is for you to be sucked into their drama. it's human nature to get angry when someone takes a shot at you, especially a family member who is supposed to be on your side even when no one else is. but you have to take a step back. detach yourself from it. realize you're not required to get upset and allow their issues to distract you from your life. you have better things to do than deal with them. that said, you can take some practical steps to stop the harassment, like checking to see if your father has violated any Facebook rules by slandering you or posting your art without your permission, and possibly blocking him from sending you e-mail. but try not to get too emotionally involved. your energy is better spent building your life and your art career. the sky's the limit, and you don't need him weighing you down.
Well, I would advise against the dA account at the moment, because they don't give you a choice in the off site sharing department. The watermarking they have is a great idea, they even have a checkbox when you upload that you have to manually select to allow full size downloads of uploaded art (something I don't allow for any of the photos I have over there), so that's another plus, it restricts the size available online, but the risks outweigh the benefits in my opinion.
There really is no feedback venue here, I guess you could pop a comment to Adam asking for some kind of non-member access restrictions to the posted artwork. With all the other features that have come, that's one that artists would stand behind.

Cripes. What bug is up yer Dad's nose art can get people lots of directions and jobs. It isn't all about degrees and mumbo jumbo. Talkin about ppl on face book like that is no good. Keep on rockin' White, I know yer art can take you far.
aaah I don't have a DA account. he's been getting them from here at the Otaku, via just saving them and then posting them up on his facebook. (to my knowledge)
Anyway interesting find CS, I'll keep that in mind. I've been considering going ahead and getting a DA account for a few days now, and am still unsure.
Facebook is the means to an end. I'm on there, but I pop on less than once a week at that. Having been knocked off the internet for long periods of time with the tech issues, I'm having trouble seeing how anyone functions with a social network site glued to their eyeballs for more than an hour at most in a given day.
The wonderful thing about e-mail is the block address feature. I did it to my sister-in-law for a while when she kept sending me those trashy e-mail forwards that are pointless and asinine. You don't need that kind of attitude, you have better more constructive things you could do with your time and energy.
I saw something on Deviant Art today that I want to look into further, they have little buttons on the artwork pages there, one being a "share on Facebook" button. Allowing that kind of sharing should be a choice the artist makes, being able to disable those buttons might be a feature buried somewhere, or it might be something the paid accounts get to do which would prompt me to wipe every submission I ever posted there off.
EDIT:
It's even worse over there on DeviantArt, there are no turn off options for the off site linking buttons. Time to move my dA portfolio to another site.
