I remember that the channel that is now 4kids tv was where cardcaptor sakura and sailor moon was on. I can't remember the name of what the channel used to be called though.
Yeah, by the time I was in university, I was getting more in [adult swim] and less into Toonami. The shows on Toonami were no longer interesting, the final arcs of DBZ were rediculous, and that was when [adult swim] really began to air anime starting with Bebop and Trigun. ^^
Trigun and Cowboy Bebop were the animes I started watching after I first watched Inuyasha :D
They aired on adult swim too and I would watch them and those are two of my favorite series evar! :3

Reminds me of how I got into anime. ^^
Like you I has been a casual viewer, saw some Pokemon, Sailor Moon, also a few movies back when SciFi (so SyFy) Channel was cool and played anime films on the weekends.
But it wasn't until Toonami included Gundam Wing and DBZ in their line-up that I became a more regular viewer, and then by the time I was going to university I got into Cowboy Bebop and Trigun which cemented my otaku status. :D
