Writing Prompt Session 4 Response

I have always wanted to join the writing prompts, though never got the time to write something. Finally, I was able to stitch some words together and manage to make it to a decent short story. Well, I hope this is all right.

“Aaaah! I overslept!” Joseph yelled out as he woke up to the loud raindrops splattering on their rooftop. His brain jumpstarted as soon as he saw what time was on the clock. It is already nine in the morning, although outside it is still dark. Joseph blamed the rain.

He jumped out of bed and made a dash for the bathroom. A few splashes of cold water and a quick toweling of himself, he again scrambled out shivering. The cold air outside of the bathroom made him sneeze.

“Stupid weather…” Joseph spoke between gritted teeth as he struggled to get his shirt on.

After getting his uniform on, he went down the stairs two steps at a time and then jumping off the last three steps.

He quickly turned to the kitchen to grab a quick bite and speed off to school.

It was then it hit him.

“Why is nobody awake yet?”

Joseph wondered out loud as he slowly walked in the kitchen and took a seat.

“Hey there, kiddo,” It was his dad. “Why are you dressed like that? Isn’t it a Sunday?”

It was like being slapped on the face with a moldy cheese. He completely forgot that today was a Sunday, yesterday was a Saturday and school will not be until tomorrow!

“In any case,” his dad told him when Joseph only answered him with a sheepish grin, “since you are already up, why don’t you help me fix something to eat? It looks like everyone overslept due to this cool weather.”

“Sure dad, I’ll just change my clothes.” Joseph replied as he slowly stood up.
