I wouldn't mind seeing how others approach the thesis statement. I like watching a method in action; it often makes me think of my own methods and planning.
I would have to agree with SomeGuy. If you elucidated your coined term, and if you explicated why the coining was necessary, its creation within the terms of your argument should not be a major issue.
That said, if you had to create a new term, thus necessitating the need for explaining its meaning and its contextual use, you are left with the consequence of having to introduce additional sentences, which you had hoped to avoid. It's a strange logic that can't be avoided when introducing new words. The coining doesn't really avoid the mass of sentences, initially, but if used again in the same text, its meaning ought to be understood.
I'm curious to know what you where trying to capture with your term.
Perhaps someone could cover the basics of the thesis statement. This seems to give some people problems, often to the point of stalling their writing. (It gave me problems at one time.)
I don't think that's something I've ever exactly done before, but so long that you did thoroughly explain what you meant by the term, I think you should have been okay. I think it'd also really depend on the teacher/professor you have; some might like that, some might not. Yeah, I think it'd really have to depend on who your audience is.
It's a two-part exercise. The first part will be a series of questions for the character - which can be answered in-character, if you like - and the second part will be a prompt for a character monologue. You'll have to wait until Sunday to see everything!
Could NightBeck give us some small teaser details about what kind of characterization exercises she'll be doing Sunday? I am extremely curious—and I've been planning to do a sequence of narratives for several of my characters based on the phrase "Who am I?", so I'm also a tad amused at the timing.

Hmm . . . gutsy.

Any more thoughts?
