Haha, I'm a horrible journalist! I like, don't follow any of those rules correctly.
Live and learn, I suppose. Thanks Kei, this was a really good read. I'll try my best to use more of this stuff in my reports (especially that timing one . . . oh how I'm bad at that . . .).
I'm no good at writing news. When I was writing for our school paper, my news gets shredded to nasty little bits and the details sewn back together by the editor. Lucky for me there were feature and opinion sections in newspapers or I certainly would be given the boot.

Journalism is fun!
InDesign is the coolest -- way better than stupid ass Quark. The newspaper I'm interning at uses CCI, which basically combines a bunch of programs (MS Word, basic desktop publishing software, photo software, etc.) into one package to edit stories and put together the paper. In some ways I like it, but as far as putting together pages goes, I prefer InDesign because it gives you more freedom and isn't clunky.
As far as writing goes, the journalistic style gets a bad rap -- hell, I even put it down before I actually started writing for the newspaper. It's been a huge influence on my writing, though; I love it.
