Just what the doctor ordered! I had been thinking a lot on the character thing and I just couldn't finalize it since I have not finalized the world that character is in.
Anyway, yeah, worldbuilding is major fun. I had a blast putting together a planet just last year, and some of the material in my main era required that I go back about four or five millennia and build a second one to explain it/set it up. And that inspired a third ear, which turned out to be an Earth crossover.....

Actually, there is one more important factor to consider, which takes in all of that: Time Period.
If someone is writing a story set in a historical period, world building takes on a different complexity. If you really want to make sure you have your details right, research into culture, society, etc of the time period in which you are setting your story is important.

A very good subject to cover. ^^ Especially if someone is planning on writng an ambitious epic, world building and attention to detail is very important.

@Allamorph:
It would be, but who the heck says "Anytown, Canada"? That's silly.

@SomeGuy:
I'm a big fan of Anytown, USA myself.
Wouldn't that be Anytown, Canada? Or is the US just more flexible? =P

I'm a big fan of Anytown, USA myself. Even if it is a city. And even if it's more Canadian than not.
I should play with inventing a world again . . . I did it once, and it was fun. Thanks for some good points to keep in mind!
