Hey, if you get any questions, this is the easiest way to get through to me.
Umm . . . aside from the little here and theres, I did once do a thing that kinda talked about my essay-writing method (should be a few weeks back or so). Otherwise yeah, if anything comes up, feel free to ask.
"compliment sandwiches"
If I have anything negative to say, I always try to squeeze it in between two compliments... That's just about the only way I can comment on something negative ^^
You covered a lot of good stuff too.
I'm writing my first 5 page essay for a summer project x___X and was looking around in case you had tips that would help [I don't have a specific question]. I got caught up reading this instead ^___^;
Ah you were faster than me doing it! Darn. =P
Hehehe...
Anyway, I tend to focus manly on the good aspects, I usually keep the negatives aspects for myself since sometimes is hard to try explaining or suggesting what the writer should pay more attention to, although, sometimes it can't be avoid and we have to say it. Not an easy task to do but like you said, it must be done.
And you know, this can also be taken during our daily life, not only it help writers but people in general, because there will always be someone one day that might ask your opinion about anything and you have to keep what you said here in mind as well.
So this is great article for both ways. You should publish this ya know, not many people know how to do a good critique on the web so this would quite useful for them. ;P

I try to hold back on negative comments. It's usually a question of how can my comment help. When negative comments pop in my head, they tend to be not helpful, so I just shut up.

This article is the biggest piece of shit ever. If I had written this, I would have focused on something else entirely.
Um, more seriously, haha. When I critique something, I usually focus on what jumps out at me, whether it's positive or negative -- that is what the writer is doing right or wrong to a stronger degree than everything else. Also, I try not be an asshole lol.
