Hello, and welcome to Yamcha's Anime universe! Some of you may know me from visiting my Myotaku page (username: Yamchaa), but if you havent visited or dont know me, then thats cool too lol. Im a big anime fan and ive been one for as long as i can remember. I collect anime movies, magazines, figures, all things related to anime, and im proud to say that i have a pretty hefty and diverse anime collecion which is usually constantly growing, and with this new world i hope to make new friends and spread my knowledge of anime to whoever may need it ^_^
Im sorry i didnt post yesterday lol, When i got home from work i pretty much fell asleep immediately and ended up sleeping all day lol. I woke up later in the evening though and was able to make it into the chat for a while, so i didnt sleep my entire day off from work away lol.
Yesterday before i left work, I did buy the anime movie Ponyo though, and when i woke up later yesterday i took the time to watch it.
To be totally honest, i really expected it to be too childish for my taste, but i always buy the Studio Ghibli movies anyways - with or without a review or prior knowledge of them. Like i said in chat last night :
I havent seen a bad Studio Ghibli film yet :)
As for Ponyo, it was a really good movie. The animation was clear and awesome, the story progressed nicely and it was just fun to watch. It had equal amounts of each emotion presented throughout the entire film, just like any other Miyazaki film and would certainly reccomend it to anyone, even if they were not an anime fan :)
Here is a pic of all my Studio Ghibli movies (except "Grave of the Fireflies", i couldnt find the tape i recorded it on)
I dont have them stacked in any type of order, i simply couldnt choose which of them i liked the best either, though Castle in the Sky is one of my favorite anime films, id like to beleive that the Studio Ghibli Films are all on an equal plane of greatness.
As for new anime dvds, a few days go i bought the Dragonball Season 2 DVD Box Set and today i spent most of the night watching episodes on it lol. This box set basically covers the Red Ribbon Army saga and it has been enjoyable to watch these episodes again, especially after recording them so many years ago lol. ill be watching this box set some more throughout the day for sure :)
Here is a pic :)
Well, i suppose that will be all for today, i may post some more stuff up later today though, so be sure to check back :)
I bought the Dragonball Season 2 DVD Box Set as it was released this morning. I just woke up though, so ill only have time to watch one episode before i have to get ready for work lol, Ill be sure to post up pics tommorrow though :)
I bet you all didnt expect me to post 3 days in a row LOL! Well to be honest, it almost didnt happen because when i got home from work this morning, i pretty much fell asleep right then, and i ended up waking up around 2 this afternoon (it's almost 4pm now) and i started some laundry. I was just sitting here, so i started pulling out more of my vhs anime tapes to watch and the 3 tapes i pulled out today were -
Wings of Honneamise
Ninja Resurection
Battle Arena Toshinden
Ive had these 3 tapes for quite a number of years, and ironically i found all 3 of them under strange luck induced circumstances lol. I found Wings of Honneamise at a Pawn Shop for 3$, Ninja Ressurection at Blockbuster Video for 4$ and i got Battle Arena Toshinden at Movie Gallery for 2$.
Strange luck indeed, but i must say that all 3 videos are worth a bit more than i paid for them, thats for sure - so ive decided to post up pics of my vhs tapes for each movie, along with the Youtube videos so you guys can check them out right here and see if you like them :) Well onto the videos :)
Wings of Honneamise
I was REALLY lucky to find this movie, and when i bought it i still didnt know it's history or how important of a film it was to Gainax at the time. It wasnt until a couple years later that i came across a large "Hitory of Gainax" article in one of my NEWTYPE USA magazines, where it discussed how important it was for Wings of Honneamise to financially do well because it could have possibly meant life or death for Gainax as we know it. As for the movie itself, i really enjoyed it when i first watched it. Its a long movie (2 hours and 5 minutes) but it is put together quite well and all the different scenes of action, love, disdain, embarrassment all seem to come at the right time. Most people would probably say this film is boring because it isnt littered with action, but it has a little bit of everything for the casual anime fan. I found this movie to be beautiful because by the time the film is over - a slacker is able to find purpose in his life, and you cant get any more fulfilling than that. I highly reccomend watching this movie, even if you never get the chance to own it! one of the best and one of my favorites :)
Battle Arena Toshinden
I just finished watching this movie, and i must say that it was actually better than i remembered when i first watched it lol. I actually remember playing the videogames that this anime is based on and they were pretty fun too :) This actual movie would probably be called your average "fighting game anime movie" but i have to say that it does have some pretty cool characters, and the animation itself it done nicely too. Though i know that most anime fils like these are usually labeld as "Street Fighter wannabes", this movie can stand on its own, just like Fatal Fury and many others. The only thing id say that put me off about this movie is that the characters always yell out their attack names lol. Other than that it was quite enjoyable and certainly worth checking out :) I couldnt find the actual movie on youtube, but i did find a video where 2 guys review the movie, so im sure they could give you alot more useful info than me lol :)
Ninja Ressurection
Wow, Ninja Resurection. When i found this movie, i was under the impression that it was a sequel to Ninja Scroll, but it is not. I would find out years later that the Jubei character in this film was actually based on a real warrior in actual history. From reading online in various places, im led to beleive that the creators puposely animated this jubei to look very similar to the Jubei in Ninja Scroll with the intent that the casual fan would mistake them as the same character and this film as a sequel or prequel. Sadly, another downside to this anime movie/OVA is that it was never finished. At the end of my tape it just says "To be continued", but to be totally fair - besides those problems, this anime actually holds some promise. The action is done really well, and the story is actually good too. there are parts that are pretty bizarre i'll admit, but alot of anime titles contain that stuff. The animation quality is just as good as Ninja Scroll (maybe better) but people will always have a bad taste in their mouth about it being incomplete and the simple fact that it isnt related to ninja Scroll. All things aside - I enjoyed this anime for the action, and the characters were cool too. sure there are alot better ninja related anime, but this one is certainly worth a watch, even if it is just once. Im sure you will all be able to see the potential of what this anime "Could have been".
Well, i guess that will be all for today, i sure hope you all enjoy the post and i hope to have some more stuff up for you tommorrow :)
This post probably wont be very big, i just felt like posting lol. roght now im just sitting here eating and trying to decide which of my VHS animes that i want to watch. i have to go to work in a couple of hours, so its doubtful that ill be able to find something soon enough, but im really leaning towards watching vhs copy of Battle Arena Toshinden.
its been a while since ive watched it, and it would certainly be cool to catch up and remember some stuff, thats for sure lol. Right now im just watching some random Wrestling dvds to pass the time, and making sure everything is ready for work tonight. Hopefully tonight will be pretty easy though - last night was a bit of a pain, but mondays typically are because they are my first night back from my days off, and im always lazy on my days off lol.
Well, it was good to post, even though it was just to ramble lol. Hopefully ill be able to find something to watch and ill be sure to post more tommorrow :)
