Wow, you have the tapes? That's awesome. I have the original dvd set...but...hmmm I don't remember now if I ever had the tapes. I may have. >> But anyway, that's a classic series. Very cool. :)
I've bought a used DVD from Amazon not too long ago, so they're a good place to go grab some reasonably priced anime. I imagine some VHS tapes might even be cheaper.
As for overpaying, I think almost every Canadian overpaid for anime DVDs and VHS tapes in the early part of 2000 or so, haha. My Evangelion boxset set me back a few hundred dollars. (I wonder how the industry could possibly collapse as it did when DVDs and VHS tapes were that ridiculously overpriced back then.)
I actually bought the Chronicles of the Heroic Knight dvd set(the red one) at Gamestop a number of years ago when they still sold dvds. I actually overpaid for it, because they had each dvd in the box set priced seperately at $9.99 each. I didnt want to pay that much, but i did anyways lol. When i found out how sought after it was, i was glad i bought it when i did lol.
I believe i bought Legend of Crystania at Gamestop back then too. I owned the movie for about 3 years before i finally watched it, and then it was a while later that i found out from Xaos that it was part of the Lodoss War story, which i was surprised that i didnt notice earlier lol.
I bought The Record of Lodoss War VHS Bos set from Amazon for a little over $8.00. I actually already owned 4 of the VHS tapes from the series, but it would have cost me more to buy the other 2 tapes separately , so i just bought the Whole box set for a cheaper price lol. If you have a VCR, getting this box set for less than $10.00 is the greatest anime steal of all time, plus tape #1 has a "Making of" Documentary, as well as some footage from an anime convention back in 1993 i believe.
buying VHS anime on Amazon is a good way to find cheap anime, especially if you like the older stuff. Ive bought some anime movies on amazon for .54 cents and .75 cents lol.
Let me know if you have any other questions :) i'd be glad to help :)

Where did you buy the boxset from? The bigger VHS boxsets look quite impressive, I'll admit!
I've never seen any of those, but I'm certainly aware of them (since they are regarded as classics). One day I'll have to check it out.
