Not sure I get what you mean... Last I checked mp3s and music weren't seen as bad influence. Or do you mean the rock/metal kind of controversial music?
truest thing ive read all week(except yu yu hakusho ) THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!! mebbe ill get my parent to read this... THATS MY FIRST INSIGHT OF MY ETERNAL EXISTANCE!!!!!!!!!!!! YAY!!!!!!!! okay...got that outta mah sistem. if you could write something on, say mp3s and music, ill love u furever. Thanx 4 teh good read and weekly insight!!!!!
Totally true! We had a debate on this last year, and the For Video Games group one! I h8 it when people say that video games cause violence and stuff. It's not because of the games!! Great Writing!
exactly!!! Video games aren't evil, they can never be considering the fact that their not alive in the first place. Video games are part of the modern life, violence will still exist, with or without video games, so there's no point in blaiming the games
i have to agree with this. though i think more girls should start playing video games because it's mostly guys that create the feminine characters and guys dnt know what a woman is actually like. It needs "a woman's touch" and i dont mean those cooking games. i mean real adventure RTS and RPS!
I agree on most points, but I think it was tthe part about plaatfor games, and I have to say that you only have to think about what your doing for a little while, after you get used to the game, it becomes almost like a second nature (sorry for making that sound so cliche, but it's true).
I have to admit that guitar hero has helped me with my hand-eye co-ordination, and that if I'm feeling down I play the sims. (Then I can kill them all!! mwahaha!!)
But seriously, games are NOT evil. It's true that every once in a while, someone goes too far, but these people normally have some sort of mental issue anyway.
Games ARE a form of art, and I too want go into game design ^^
Great points.
AGREED DUDE.
It's also in a study that video gamers are good for doctors because it makes them work 30% better or something like that. I like this nice job!
completely right! when i was in counseling my "counselor" said that video games were BAD 4 every1. i even explained that when ur pissed at some1 just sit down & play a good old fighting game, they can always help get ur anger out. i always play either FFCC or KH 2 help me ! also if ur feeling like every1 hates u then video game characters can make u feel like people still like u... even if they aren't real people... i still think they count! ... someway. all i know is if people take my games away they better run 4 the hills hehehe... games can teach life skills like how 2 handle money properly, and get through some tough times in life!
I love how you put it! Most people (ahem, Jack Thompson) think that video-games are the source of most violence, when that's just not the case. Sure, there are some gamers who take it way over the top, but the average gamer has great reflexes and strategic thinking. Well, most gamers.
You're definitely not alone with thinking video games are beneficial. Video games have pratically raised me if not become a huge part of my life. More people need to realize not to just dump blame on the nearest thing possible. If something goes wrong and it involves a game, it was most likely that the person or the caretaker themselves were at fault.
But even then, video games can be bad if you allow it to be. Some just let it take complete control. My little brother spends most of the time playing games and ignores everything else. It's bad enough for me to try and prevent him from playing.
My point: It all depends on whether you play the game or the game plays with you.
The only problem with videogames is people who take them WAAAAY too seriously and either spend all their time playing the game or lose their ability to differentiate between reality and the virtual world. Those people would go nuts on something else like drugs anyways, so really, the only reason that society would attack videogames is that they're a convenient scapegoat. Comic books have suffered this fate for quite some time.
I agree, unfortunately there will always be people to turn everything we say against us. =_=;;
But I do think that people against video games are becoming more and more of a minority. For example, my 42 year old accounting teacher is a hard core World of Warcraft player, my father, a 45 year old military man has beaten both of the kingdom hearts and owns various computer games. So, while there are some extremeists (particlarly in the media) the average jo smo, really doesn't care (anymore). Video games are no longer the "nerd" thing to do (now, you still can be, but I find you are no longer classified as a nerd simply because you play video games) and especially with the wii, families have become more involved with video games as well.
This was a fantastic article ~ Laughs ~ I almost want to go and play video games even more now ~ Smiles ~ I do have to admit that some of my happiest memories of family life were around video games since they actually brought my family together! that coupled with your excellent reasons here should totally persuade people that video games are god (though it could start them preaching that movies are bad instead ~ Winks ~).
Lovely work ~ many thumbs up ~ And good luck on your crusade to get adults to like video games,
Great report, I really like this! ^0^ I've been trying to convince people that video games aren't evil for AGES! I just might print this out I like it so much!
I have long since been telling people the mental advantages to gaming, as well as how it is no longer a business, but an artform (though art everywhere is being branded anyway, i guess this particular genre works backwards.) Really well done. A few critique points; I would branch out and use more examples and genres, as well as the many options of newgen consoles, such as the Wii. FPS games attribute huge amounts of teamwork, and puzzle games are getting much more mischievious and cunning (example: Portal.) Things like that. But again, you didn't really need that much more because you already did a fantastic job. Keep it up!

I full-heartedly agree! Unlike regular TV, video games are interactive. Games like Zelda make you think, solve puzzles and work through problems. They also increase your creativity. Thanks for writing this ^_^

Hear, hear! A shame most of the other girls think "games are too hard" or too complex for their short amount of time...
