Oh, I saw the movie the day it came out. In one word: disappointment! My sis and dad and I went to see it , and every time they mispronounced a name, I had to stop myself from shouting "It's like Sock-uh not So-kuh!!!" My sister and I even made a list of things that SUCKED like leaving out the Kyoshi warriors (I mean, come on, Suki is Sokka's love interest for the rest of the series!), no King Boomi, no penguin sledding for goodness sakes!, no Jett (wth? leaving out another love interest? AAND, he's important in ba sing se), Katara doesn't have hair-loopies, you actually see the firelord and he doesn't even have his long hair and creepy beard!, the northern water tribe leader just totally accepts Katara as a student when before he was all like "no, you're a girl" and she was all " so? I'll kick your butt" and she did. And Aang and Sokka were way too serious. Aang was saying that the reason he ran away was that "the monks told me I couldn't have a family" when it just complete BS! Avatar Roku had a family he's even one of Zuko's ancestors and what twelve-year-old boy cares about growing up and having a family?! GAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!! The Ember Island players got A LOT more right than Shamalamadingdong! ..So yeah.
What you should do is buy a ticket, and if you don't like it leave before 30 minutes pass. My sister told me that if you don't like a movie in the first 30 minutes you can go exchange your ticket for a different movie. And Inception and Despicable Me are out so~! 8D
I was going to watch that movie, but now I'm mad. I loved that show. It slowly grew on me until I couldn't wait to watch it before my weekly dose of Inuyasha and Bleach. Even though people don't call it real anime as it was produced in America, I count it as one of the stepping stones into me becoming an Otaku.
And they COULDN'T EVEN GET THE NAMES RIGHT!?
*sigh* this upsets me. Excuse me while I go into me emo corner for the night.
I agree with you 100%! I saw the movie and almost fell asleep. I even tried to make an escape to the mall, but there were to many people in my row! I was soo upset, They should of just left it as a cartoon and not make a movie. Or hey maybe made a "better" movie. I mean who was the director, Friggen monkeys?! xD Zuko wasn't even hot! The only good thing about the movie was the effects. I regret not going to see Eclipse instead x( I die a little inside every time I see the commercials...
I liked the effects and such in the movie, but I was very upset with how different it is from the series. I was really upset when they changed Sokka's character. He's supposed to be goofy and always messing up(at least in the first book, by the end of the series he's strong) and in the movie he was serious the whole time.
I was also upset with Aang's avatar state. In the show it's much bigger and brighter and all they did in the movie was swirl some wind around.
I think that maybe the movie in itself is good, but when you compare it to the series, it's not. I want to see the next simply because I want to see the direction he takes the story. Though I'm worried about it being completely different again.

I heard way too many bad reports about the movie I decided it wasn't worth my money, even to quench my curiousity.
However, I did watch a special on Nickelodeon where they talked to Shamalan about the movie, so I might be able to answer a few questions...
He said that the pronunciations in the movie are the original Chinese ways that you say the names. To roughly quote him he said that since he was Asian it was only right to stick with the original Asian dialect. But, in this, I don't think he was really thinking about his audience. For one, the show appears on Nicktoons, so a lot of fans are going to be a lot younger and aren't going to understand the whole name change. And, for the older audience whose been with the show since forever (myself, being guilty) aren't going to appreciate the fact that their favorite characters have been changed on them, even if it is for the sake of authenticity.
Also, about the Firebenders, he said that he use to watch the show with his daughter, and that's how he was inspired to make the movie, and that he never thought it was fair that Firebenders could make their own element whereas the other nations had to rely on their resources, so he said he took some liberties as the director to make the changes. But if you ask me, that just makes the whole thing a lot more complicated. We're all use to watching Zuko punch fireballs from his fists and to be honest, I never really thought about the fact that they could make their own element until Shamalan said something. I think he thought way too hard on the subject.
Also, back to his audience, Shamalan should have taken a lot more seriously just how much people LOVE this show, and done more to remain faithful to the script that we all know and love. Of course, being a movie you can't fit in EVERYTHING that went on in Book One (I heard despite how much he loved them, Shamalan has to cut out the Kyoshi warriors), but there are some basics he could have stuck to that would have made the fans feel more like the movie was made for them.
As for the poor choice in actors, directors never get it right so I guess that's something we just have to deal with. Just gotta lower our standards... :/
I'm sorry the movie was such a bust. But at least the animated show will always remain its totally awesome self :)
As God as my witness, I will BURN the next A:TLA movie he comes out with before mortal eyes have a chance to have their brains forever lost in a sea of anger and confusion! DIS MOVIE SUCKED! I gotta say, this was almost as bad as watching one of those cheezy Sci-Fi movies. They had so many things wrong, and the movie really didn't even feel like a movie. It was more of a overly extended montage. They cut SO many things out and changed pretty much everything. Also, why would he split the tribes into specific races? I mean Water was White, Earth was Chinese, Fire was all Indian, and Air was some Hispanic children and the one black guy. RACISM! Non of M. Nit Shamalamadingdong's movies were ever good in the first place, so I wasn't expecting very much from the movie, but this was just ridiculous. At the end of the movie, I only thought of his famous words, "What a twist!"
I feel your pain... This is the reason why I refused to go see it. If Disney hadn't of wanted to be cheap and had let PETER JACKSON do it and take the 3 YEARS he wanted to so it then I'm sure it would have turned out great.
I love the series and once I saw the commmercials I was so ticked... I prolly won't ever see any of Shamanamana's wtfever his name is, Movies... I've been pist at the last 3 he put out.....
God I saw it the other day and flipped out man... like no joke. o__O why the heck did the Blue Water Spirit mask have such retarded long hair???? I must ask why????? Also, was it just me or did he TELL a lot of the story instead of SHOW it... I mean seriously... Yue's relationship with Soka was TOLD not shown. It was just randomly thrown in there and what not =___=. If they make another one, I'm scared to death to see what Toph looks like. I'm serious. Also o__O Good grief Xiao seriously failed in the movie... like.. ugh... DX< I WANTED TO SEE THE SACRED LIBRARY DANG IT! AND THE PRETTY BIRD! ;A; I wanted to see the Owl... *cries*
