That's the same for me! haha. The gatherings are pretty huge though. Funny Story: before my g-parent's 50th anniversary party, my sis shaved her head! My mom made her wear a wig. It was so funny!
Wow, those must be some big gatherings. XD Only 8 cousins on mom's side, but that's not including my aunts' kids, too. I must have upwards of 35 cousins if I include the fact that my grandmother had quite a few siblings as well. And, not many of my dad's siblings had kids. On his side of the family, I've got only 4 cousins. XDDD
Only ten grandchildren? you're lucky. There are at least 30 grandchildren, just on my mom's side (She is one of 7 kids) It makes things a little 'impersonal'. We have to rent out a hall for family get-to-gethers.
A drunk, huh? I'm sorry. >.< That's no fun.
I like to drink, but I've never been drunk before and I'm sure I'm a lightweight anyway. XDDD
Alcoholism runs in my boyfriend's family... but, he's promised me he won't become an addict. One drink a week will be his limit.
But, yes, I suppose families do play favorites. Of 10 grandchildren, my sister and I are my grandmother's only blood-related grand-kids. All the others came into the family when she remarried my grandpa. And, even SHE plays favorites with us. X3
I was thinking the same thing. I might confront the sister when she gets home today after school, when we're home alone together for about 2 or 3 hours.
As for my dad... my sister has always been his... favorite, I think. My mom has always kinda favored me, though, so it's not like I was neglected. But, even my mom says he seems to favor my sister, and it's probably because they are both the youngest in the family. He had 5 older brothers and sisters, and the second to youngest brother was, like, 15 years older than him anyway. My mom was an only child, so they are on two opposite sides of the spectrum there.
Anyway, yes, I was like, "Yeah, dad. I'm a diabetic, slightly allergic to cigarette smoke as it is, and my boyfriend is even more severely allergic." On top of that, I FOUND THE DAMN THING! If it were mine, I would've put it away and not said a thing!
But, dad's always been this way, he sucks at thinking things through and he sucks at being a father. When I was born, my mom was ready to be a mom at age 19. My dad was 20 and I STILL don't think he's ready...
Oh, and no, my mom wasn't in the room. That bugged me too, because if she had been, I have no doubt that after my dad left, she would've stayed longer and talked with me and heard how pissed off I was that he would accuse me of using a lighter or having cigarettes. She would understand, but... maybe tonight...
Don't fret! If you haven't confronted your sis alone yet, now is a good time. She'll be nervous, and she'll know you're serious about telling the parents if she doesn't comply. What your dad said kinda bothers me though. Why would you even tell them about the lighter if it was yours?? Is it possible that it is his lighter? I mean, that seems a little defensive on his part. Was your mom in the room when he asked you if it was yours?
