Man, and to think that my anime obsession started when I saw my arch-rival reading Naruto, and when my former teacher showed us FF7: Advent Children in the TV room.... He's still my arch-rival to this day tho XP
My way of getting new otaku friends? Just open up and be yourself, and the others will open up themselves too! And surprise! You would never expect that guy you think is an anime-hater actually love Death Note!
And the guy pestering you to borrow your comp? He's just reading mangas in secret, behind tabs of MySpace and Facebook!
I LOVE my genius-ness XP...

Hey, do what I do. If you can't find an Otaku, make one! XD
Good luck with the new school. Here's a tip on how to find another Otaku easily: if you draw anime at all, draw a lot in class when you have time. Some kids might heckle you about it, but it's the easiest way for someone who likes it to approach you and make conversation about it. Visuals are essential. Or, wear an anime-themed shirt once in awhile.
Best of luck to ya! And, hey, if you don't find anyone, you've got me and the rest of TheOtaku here at home for ya! >_<

Man, I loved your little post thing. Very touching. At school I keep anime to myself prety much unless some person metions it. I don't know that many otakus at school. But I'm going to a different school. Maybe there's more otakus there. Wish me luck! - Xonik (OTAKU FOREVER)
I can say that was realy realy good, but in my case thats not it, I am in 8th grade now and sadly the so called 'popular' are starting to get their own glimps at anime and manga-- a.k.a. people who don't know anything >.>-- it is a great thing many people get to have a look, after I read this I knew that I needed to share it with fellow otaku, thank you ^^
This must be one of the best articles I have ever read! I totally agree with you! Many thinks that otaku are geeks or nerdy people who loves anime (which is often described as weird) And it's great for you, Popularity isn't everything, it's acceptance and just being who you are and loving what you love! I too gave up popularity for my love for anime, and now, I am happy with the group of friends I have (although...they are weird)! This is inspiring. Thanks! Now, I have got an idea for a story writing competition I am joining!
Wow... Yes, this was probably one of the best things I've read within the last few months. Of course, everone's experience is entirely different (mine coming in under my sister's wing...or shadow, lol), but we are all, really, otakus. And it's a wonderful thing to meet people that actually accept you for who you are! ^ ^
I'm glad that your parents supported you in your endeavor and that you were able to feel good about yourself :D
Loved reading this!

This is wonderful. Otakus are seen in a sense as 'nerdy,' 'never goes out', 'ect.ect.ect.' but there is so much more behind it. Like you said, they live in cities, towns, ect. and are like you and me. I'm very glad you decided to watch a show over going to a party. Haha. It sounds very wrong in a sense (who wants to watch a show when you can party with friends?!) but because of the outcome, it was just a lucky choice, very lucky. I'm also happy with your decision to cut ties off with your previous friends. People don't seem to do that a lot, because they have so many emotional connections or something that holds them to them (maybe they've known them for a long time, they did something for them in the past, ect.). Nevertheless, I'm happy you published it. It's well written, and since it's a personal experience, maybe people will have slightly different views about some otaku.
Amazing! I met one of my best friends by simply mentioning InuYasha! XD
However recently I have forgotten how it feels to meet a new fellow otaku, thats probably why I joined here.. Subconciously of course cuz I'm always joining things on the internet. But I've decided, I am going to try my best to meet or make another otaku!
This is a cool story! I love the way you wrote it too, nice job ^_^
It's a graet thing to be Otaku! Even if sometimes we are not fully accepted in our society, we still have the joy of meeting others like us
lol that is what i would call ironic =3 it's a damn good thing that you listen to the losers(like me) so all preps beware to be BUSTED!!! >3

That was inspiring! Completely different from my story but still utterly inspiring... Now I feel like writing down my life as an otaku... INSPIRING! (I really hope I spelled that right...)
Very nice. Some people stereotype the otaku as "the bad kids". I don't think so and it makes me mad when people expect me and my friends to be weirdo emo kids who read strange, gory comic books with naked women. -_- I've met some of my best friends through anime. And it's something that keeps us all together. It's something we use to find others like us and make new friends who actually understand what we're saying when we say "OMG! Did you read the new Naruto scan? SO WEIRD! Such NaruHina!"
:D
I liked your article because it talks abou going in the right direction. I've been an otaku since I was 2 and now I'm 15. :D I really don't care what people say about anime/manga being lame.
I can't say my ..erm... ("conversion" doesn't seem like the right word, but "seduction" sounds a little dark...) was as interesting. Nor can I say I really fit in with the Otaku (though this word had not yet made it's debut)around me when I became one (thank goodness for the internet!). But your experience is comforting. More people need to speak up about what positive influences- fictional, artistic, or otherwise, have had on their lives. A good story, and well told.
