I never could pull for Light, I was pulling for L all the way. The only reason I was willing to watch Death Note after L died was because I knew Light was gonna die and I wanted to see it happen. The only anime character I hate worse than Light is Sasuke Uchiha from Naruto.
The less Tucker was in the show the better, in my opinion. But he was a very good psycho.
The Major totally rocks!
My favorite psychos would be:
Gaara from Naruto. "My reason for living is in the killing of others," it doesn't get more psycho than that.
Every Akatsuki member from Naruto. Ok, so not all of them are true psychos, but it's hard to choose just one. Tobi/Obito is my favorite Akatsuki member, but he's not really all that psycho. Deidara is my favorite of the truly psycho ones, and I like Hidan too.
The Major from Hellsing. Same reason as you.
and Kimbley from FMA. I like him a lot, he's an awesome psycho, and he reminds of Deidara lol.
Yeah, Tamaki from Deadman Wonderland is truly sick. As is everyone else in charge of a prison designed so that criminals have to go through sick, brutal battle royales to survive. Which makes all the people who watch it for entertainment because "they're just criminals, they're bad guys" pretty twisted too.
Wow. That was a really cool, extensive article. While I haven't seen all of the shows you picked example characters from, I'll comment on the ones I have. Which are pitifully few.
Haruko
Honestly, I didn't "get" FLCL. At all. And I watched it twice, thinking the second time around, I'd understand it more. No such luck. But since you mentioned it, Haruko does fit your definition of a psychopath. You presented your case very well with her.
Light
When you were talking about the psychopath character in general, my mind instantly jumped to Light. I KNEW you would include him. Light is one of the few characters that I simultaneously root for and against. His intentions are good at first, but it's fun to watch him unravel.
Tucker
I totally forgot about this guy. All the same, I'm glad you included him in your list. Since I was introduced to him in the manga first, I'll address that continuity first. He seemed innocent enough at first. I had wondered why I had never heard of the Sewing Life Alchemist before, since I was familiar with a lot of the characters before I started reading/watching the series. Due to his brief appearance, now I know why. But that part when he doesn't know what research to present to keep his license, and he's looking out the window, I was thinking "He wouldn't. He WOULDN'T!" But he did. That's when I was like whoa. This guy's insane. I have yet to see this scene animated in "Brotherhood". In the first anime, when I saw his fate, I personally thought it was mostly for shock value. I just kind of wanted him to die at that point. Anyway, the point you raised about him being the only "in memoriam" character not to have a halo and little wings was something I had never thought about before. To think that Tucker has fewer redeeming qualities than Envy...
You wrote a really great article. I can't believe I'm the first to comment.
