Chapter 2
Eventually, we reached a small ally in the deeper part of the city. My phone buzzed, but I ignored it. In fact, I threw it to a random homeless guy. "You can keep it until I come back," I told him. Ignoring the thanks he gave, I walked on.
The sun was now completely down. The ally was darker than the sky. The shadows seemed almost friendly, though. They parted just enough that I could see my way.
"Here they come! I'm going to be quiet like a good feather now," it giggled. The very matter a few feet in front of me seemed to liquefy, then burst. There was a flurry of limbs, and I sweat-dropped. A little white rabbit-looking creature sat on top of the pile. It had a red jewel in its forehead, and one hanging from a piercing in it's ear.
"Huh? Mokona can't see anything!" it said. "But wait! Mokona hears..." it was cut off.
"Instead of just sitting there, how about getting off us, fluff ball?" said a guy in a black and red outfit. It grabbed the creatures ears. Judging by the third-person speech of the rabbit, I guessed it's name was Mokona. The guy was rather creepy, with spikey black hair, and ninja looking gear.
"Ow! That's Mokona's ear! Put Mokona down!" it said. Another man stood up in a royal blue, fluffy coat. Another boy was there in a green and black outfit, looking to be dressed for summer heat. In his arms was a girl just a bit younger than me, in a very airy looking dress. Obviously, they were from the same place.
"Kurgy, you need to let Mokona finish his sentence!" said the man in the fluffy coat. "What did you hear Mokona?"
"Mokona thought Mokona heard someone there!" it said as the man dropped it and glared at the man that spoke. Then, he sighed, and closed his eyes.
"Yeah, there's someone there," he said. Then he gave a smirk. He was gone in a flash. I whipped around to see him coming at me from behind with an attempt to grab me around the neck. I blocked his arm without thinking.
"Maybe you should think twice before attacking a girl! Much less one that could help you or kick your butt!" I growled. His face changed to a look of surprise, then a smirk. He lowered his hand.
"You talk big for a girl," he said in a gruff voice. I followed the remark with a hard punch to the gut. He fell back with two feet and a hand skidding to catch himself along the ground.
"You talk big for someone who can't see when a person isn't bluffing!" I said with a smirk. He stood back up and we growled at each other, him looking down at me and me up at him. Dang he was tall!
"Okay, break it up you two!" said the other man. "Kuro-pu! From the way she talks, she knows something, and she's going to help us, right?" he looked in my general direction for back-up. Obviously, he couldn't see through the dark.
"Yeah, I'll help. Just make sure your brute watches his mouth." I said with a hint of a smirk in my voice. "That girl, I believe I have something of her's." I held out the feather. The eyes of the boy opened wide, and he spoke for the first time.
"Sakura's feather! Please, give that to me!" The boy begged. I looked at him suspiciously.
"One condition." I said. "You take me with you on your travels." The boy looked sadly.
"We can't make any promises like that," he sighed. "You see, our permission to travel the dimensions came from-"
"Yuuko!" said Mokona. An image appeared on the nearby wall. A woman appeared, ornately dressed.
"I heard the majority of the conversation," she said. "And to travel with you, she will have to pay a similar price." Then the lady, Yuuko, I guessed, addressed me. "In order to travel the dimensions, you must pay with the one thing you value the most."
"Well, there isn't much that really matters to me, but..." I pulled out a chain with a small red jewel that looked like a large drop of blood out from my shirt and removed it from my neck. "Will this do?" Yuuko took one look at it, and nodded.
"Mokona will send it to me," she said. Mokona opened it's mouth, and sucked the necklace out of my hand. Yuuko held it up. "Okay. You are cleared. Mokona will now transport you with the rest. My part is done here." The image disappeared.
"Damn, that witch doesn't even give the rest of us time to say anything, huh?" said the ninja looking man. I ignored his comment and walked over to the boy. I released the feather over the girl. It disappeared into her with a glowing. I smiled.
"Well, maybe we should all introduce ourselves," said the man in the blue. "I'm Fai. I'm traveling to go anywhere but my home world. That thug that tried to attack you is Kuro-pu," he pointed to the ninja guy.
"Stop with the nicknames! Where did you get those anyway?!" Kuro-pu complained. "The name is Kurogane. I'm just trying to get back to my own world." I nodded.
"I'm Syaoran, and this is Sakura," said the boy, motioning to himself, then the girl in his arms. "We're traveling, trying to find feathers like the one you gave us. You see, they hold her memory."
"Yeah. Well, I'm Zoey. I'm traveling to escape the nothingness of my life, and possibly find an old friend." I said. They all gave some sort of recognition. Looking at all of them, I decided I could easily get along with this bunch. It was obvious that none of them knew each other very well yet.
"Mokona is here too! Mokona is Mokona!" said Mokona. I smiled at the cute little fluff ball. "Mokona doesn't sense any more feathers. We can go now." It jumped into the air.
"Mokona Modoki, ready to go!" it said. Wings appeared, and a circle appeared under us. We were all sucked into Mokona's mouth, and my adventure began with four strangers who would soon become my best friends.
