A boy travels against his parents' rules on his own curious trek through the nearby forest when he encounters a mysterious clearing. He stops, curious at the traces of motion in the dark grove at the forest's heart. He is not afraid when he gazes into the monster's kind eyes as it slowly emerges from the trees like a living, breathing manifestation of bark and leaf.
"Save us," says the creature as it then disappears into the trees from whence it came. The boy watches as a blade of grass at his feet wilts and crumples, the first traces of death in the forest's vast abundance of life.
It will not be long.
