This was more of an experimental project to see if I could pull off some kind of stained glass effect in a drawing.
The process involved was a bit lengthy but what I did here wasn't too far off from the original art itself. First I would draw the sketch and line art like usual, paying close attention to the flux lines in stained glass and how they are made. then I would find resource images of stained glass samples found on the internet.
Here where two places in particular I used:
http://www.spectrumglass.com/stained-glass/products/product-list.asp#Amber
http://silviahartmann.com/background-tile-art/9-glass-background-1.php
from there I would then cut out, arrange and fix the patterns under the line art in photoshop which that itself is a lengthy process trying to keep the patterns from showing and repeating themselves to look at least somewhat natural.
After that I would overlay a copy of the lineart, use a slight blur to make the line art shaded from the sunlight and even give an almost antique look. Then played around with a few more textures and added lighting into an overlayed layer of white in certain spots.
I was pleased with the results, but I couldn't decide how the boarder should be patterned out and just kinda left it as is. I tried adding a stained glass texture under the red, but everything I tried seemed to look too busy or something. Oh well, the image as a whole is pretty neat!
