This song is based on the actual story “The Little Mermaid” no, not the sugar coated Disney version but the real one that was made in 1837. The story is about the Little Mermaid who falls in love with the prince and wants to exchange her voice for legs. She hopes to marry the prince but fails, so then she has to go back for her voice. She is told if she kills the prince she’ll be a mermaid again, But when she is standing before him (while he is sleeping), she couldn't do it; her body then turns into foam before the blinding daylight.
In this song, The prince wakes up. He asks the girl to kill him , since they cannot get married he does not want to live without her, nor does he want the girl to turn into foam. "Don't hesitate, please take my heart. Love is kind of light winkling. Even the moon closes its eyes. Suppose me as a stranger, or fancy yourself actor. What we say is just lines of an opera. Baby don’t cry tonight. When the dawn lights the skies, it will be as if nothing ever happened. You will never dissolve into foam, for my love is with you forever. So baby don’t cry .”
