Chapter 24: Road to Recovery
(Author’s Note: Vincent’s POV)
[2 weeks later]
Time has passed, and with it health has been regained. Kim is on the way to being herself again; making such amazing recovery time that she’s actually baffled the doctors. Visitors have come and gone. Cloud and Tifa managed to stop by every evening for dinner. Even Yuffie made it over a couple of times. Cid and I were given time off by Reeves for a month; we’re shockingly still getting paid regardless. We both take turns watching over Kim, making sure she does absolutely nothing to over exert herself.
The machine she is on is working wonderfully. She used to be on it 24/7, but now she’s doing so well that she only needs it on while she sleeps at night. That way the particles and whatnot still left in her lungs can’t settle at night while she rests. The medication she is on, however, has drained her of most of her energy. Dr. Baron reassured me on the matter, and said the symptoms are completely normal. After the month of being on the medication, all symptoms will seize to exist.
My min wanders more often now since Kim is so inactive. I find myself so deprived of her normalcy that the simplest things she’ll do or say excite me to an extreme. It’s an odd thing to deal with after getting so used to her positive energy whirling throughout the house from day to day. Most of the nights these past couple weeks I have rested at her very side. I find it impossible to separate myself from her. Having seen her lying in a hospital bed really brought the reality of possibly losing her someday. It was devastating to think about. Ever since, it’s like a magnet switched on and I can’t leave her for longer than 10 minutes. Doctors call it separation anxiety, but I call it love. Some have a hard time believing I’ll admit something so heartfelt.

Kim is finally up and walking around on her own. The medication has done wonders and the symptoms have past like Dr. Baron promised. The breathing machine at night helped her finish rehabilitating her lung capacity, and now she’s fully capable of breathing on her own. I’m able to go to work in the morning knowing she’ll be just fine on her own. Of course I told her to keep Cloud or Reno’s number close at hand in case of an emergency. Now with a month gone, summer is closing in. Kim is worrying her little head off about the wedding preparations… I, on the other hand, cannot wait to get it over with. Seeing Kim anxious is making me nervous. But then I remember who I’m marrying, and all is well.
