Chapter 25: Summer

(Kim’s POV)

[2 months later]

June 12th is the day we settled to get married on. Today’s date is June 11th. My mind is about to explode as everything gets closer to the end, but only to start a new beginning. Vincent is managing to keep his calm, which only pisses me off even more. I feel like I’m the only anxious person around.
“You did remember to pick up your tie at the store, right? You know the one that matches my dress?”
“Yes, Kim. I did that last week, when you reminded me the first time,” Vincent rolled his eyes as he walked past. “Are you coming to bed or what? I figure we should turn in early to be well rested for tomorrow.”
My mouth hung open as he spoke to me so nonchalantly.
“A-are you serious? How can you act so… so calm?! You do realize we’re getting married tomorrow, right? Aren’t you nervous at all?”
“I have nothing to be nervous about,” he pulled back the comforter on the bed. “Why should I be nervous when I know I’m going to get to spend the rest of my life with you?”
“Vincent…” my mind cleared for the first time in weeks. I sighed as I stared at him. “What did I ever do to deserve someone like you?”
“No, you’ve got it backwards,” he smiled at me. “I don’t deserve you.”
“Hm… If you say so…”
“Now get over here and lay down,” Vincent patted the empty spot in the bed next to him. “I can’t fall asleep anymore without my personal comfort pillow.”
“Oh so that’s all I am to you now…” we laughed together as we drifted to sleep.

[The Big Day]

Everything was going by in a blur. I woke up in the morning only to be greeted by sunshine and hair stylists. Vincent had already been dragged away by Cloud and Cid, to wherever the men were meeting. Yuffie and Elena were already dressed in their Bride’s-Maid dresses, sitting chairs getting their hair done. Tifa was the one who woke me up.
“We all decided to let you sleep in an extra hour,” she laughed. “It was hilarious trying to pry Vincent from your grasp this morning, though.”
“He’s already gone and ready, right?” My mind was thrown into overdrive as everything became clearer.
“Yes, he left about an hour ago.”
The rooms of the house were flooded with guests; a loud murmur clamored in the halls. It was going to be a long day…

[A few hours later]

I’m on my way to the church now… And I’m having a nervous breakdown. Tifa and Elena are both waving their hands in my face, trying to get me to calm down. I know I’m not making a mistake or anything, it’s just overwhelming to think about being married…About me being together with one man for the rest of my life. So why am I nervous? I’m marrying the man of my dreams!
“Kim, are you okay now?” Elena’s face sat directly in front of mine.
“Yes… I’m more than okay,” I smiled. “I’m getting married… to Vincent!”

(Vincent’s POV)
[Inside the Church]

Cloud told me just now that the limo holding Kim and the rest of the women arrived. My heart skipped a beat at the thought of seeing Kim in her dress. She was never a fan of dressing up, but when she did it was breathtaking. Plus, I’ve never seen the dress, and I spent over 500 dollars on it. I deserved to see the dress at this point.
“Vince, they’re saying the bride is ready to go,” Cloud patted my back. “Can I give the word to start the ceremony?”
My mind raced, but my heart knew I was ready.
“Yes,” I nodded calmly. “Let’s start.”
Cloud gave a thumb-up to someone in the back, and they quickly disappeared behind the pillars. The piano player began the wedding procession tune, and the enormous door in the rear of the church flew open. All the Bride’s Maids and Best Mans flowed through the doorway. They all looked wonderful. My heart stopped though when I saw a significant someone following close behind. She looked far more beautiful than I could ever imagine. The sunlight streaming through the window panes glistened off the surface of her dress. The veil hid her perfect face, and I couldn’t wait to reveal her beauty underneath.

She seemed to progress forward in slow motion, multiplying her gorgeousness by the thousands. As soon as she made her way next to me, I lifted the veil from her face. She was on the verge of tears; I could tell. I laughed a little, but then felt myself fighting off the tears too. And then, the ceremony began.

“Do you, Vincent Valentine, take Kimberly Amaterasu as your lawfully wedded wife; through sickness and in health, till deaths do you part?” The minister boomed in front of us both. Kim’s hand was shaking.
“I do,” I smiled lightly at her with my small, but life altering response.
“And do you, Kimberly Amaterasu, taken Vincent as your lawfully wedded husband; through sickness and in health, till deaths do you part?”

Kim froze. I shook her hand a little. My eyes questioned if she was okay. Then suddenly tears streamed down her face. I smiled at her in return.
“Its okay, Kim,” I whispered ever-so-lightly.
“I… I do,” she smiled back at me through the tears.
“Then by the powers invested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may kiss the bride.”
It was a moment like no other kissing her then. It was the moment leading to the rest of our lives... our lives together. I was ecstatic. In the past, I would have never imagined anything like this ever happening to me. Meeting Kim has taught me something very important; love is for everyone. You just have to be willing to wait for it. And now, because I waited all those strange, terrible years for love, I’ve found the most amazing person in the entire world. Love is truly amazing, and I thank God to be blessed enough to have found it.

THE END.
