Les Miserables: Shoujo Cosette is an anime based on the famous book Les Miserables by Victor Hugo (The Hunchback of Notre Dame). It's about a girl and her mother in the 19th Century France trying to find a job and a home. The mother goes off to the big city to earn some money and leaves the girl behind to live with some caretaker, who then turns her into his slave. She then becomes friends with the Mayor and he decides to do something about it.
