It reminded me of Christina and Ezio. In AC:B there are five "Christina Memories", which are memories Ezio has repressed. They describe his romance, and its tragic end, with Christina Vespucci. Over the course of these memories he has to say goodbye to her four times. The fourth time, being the final time. Later, in Revelations he remarks offhand that he was "late [to his wedding] by about 25 years." One could assume he was implying that if things had not happened the way they did, he would have married Christina.
