Itazura na Kiss Will Have the Ending the Manga-ka Never Got to Write
The Mainichi Shimbun paper interviewed music producer Shigeru Nishikawa about the ongoing anime adaptation of his late wife Kaoru Tada's unfinished shōjo manga classic, Itazura na Kiss. Nishikawa says that Tada told him in January of 1999 that "I think I'll end [the manga] this year." She slipped into a coma after a home accident in February of that year and died the following month.
However, Nishikawa added that Tada told him her plot for the manga's finale, and her concept will be the basis for the anime scripts. While Nishikawa emphasized that the manga and anime are distinct from each other, he revealed that the anime will be the first time that the concepts for Tada's planned ending will be provided to fans in any form.

Looks Like It Didn't PiQ the Interest in Fans
Freelance writers are reporting that PiQ magazine editor Kevin Gifford notified them that the magazine's current July issue is the last one. Freelancers will still be compensated for any work they had done for the unpublished August issue. According to the reports, PiQ's editorial staffers have already vacated their office. PIQ has not made a formal, public announcement about its status yet, and PIQ staffers were unavailable for comment. PIQ began publishing in March after A.D. Vision ceased publication of its Newtype USA magazine. PIQ inherited much of Newtype USA's editorial staff, stable of freelance writers, and list of subscribers. However, PiQ differentiated itself by expanding its focus beyond Newtype USA's anime/manga coverage to popular culture in general. It also offered Newtype USA subscribers two issues for every remaining issue of Newtype USA still owed on their subscriptions. The July issue is PIQ's fourth issue.

“A court has convicted a restaurant owner for serving alcohol to a car driver who later caused a fatal accident with two cars.
The Saitama District Court on Thursday sentenced Hiroaki Okubo, 45, the operator of a restaurant from Kumagaya, Saitama Prefecture, to two years in prison, suspended for five years, for violating the Road Traffic Law.
"The defendant served liquor for the sake of sales at his restaurant. The act is self-indulgent," Presiding Judge Yoshifumi Otani said in handing down the ruling.
According to the ruling, Okubo served about eight glasses of "shochu" liquor to a regular customer, Kiyoshi Tamagawa, 32, during approximately a five-hour period from around 1:30 p.m. on Feb. 17.
An hour later, Tamagawa caused a head-on collision with another car after hitting yet another vehicle while he was driving on a road in Kumagaya, leaving two people dead and seven injured. Tamagawa has been indicted on charges of dangerous driving resulting in death and injury.”
What is your opinion on this matter? Should a restaurant owner have responsibility in a drunk drivers accident?

For those of you who were worried about Gurren Lagann, it is getting the special Bandai treatment (as you may all know). Bandai is releasing a special edition of the first volume, what makes this very special you ask? This volume comes with 9 episodes and a soundtrack. The price is very excellent also (you get it all for $40, but its going to be cheaper than that depending on where you go). No word yet on the new dub though.
It releases on 7-08-08 (hopefully).
“It was definitely worth it.”
Walking around in his Squad Ten Captain’s coat, Eric is able to sum up the entire feel of the movie Bleach: Memories of Nobody in a single sentence. He was one of the many anime fans to flock to a theater in Livonia, Michigan for one of the two showings of the movie that would run. Some travelled over thirty miles to watch their favorite characters on the big screen.
“It’s only playing for two days,” Eric said, responding as to why he decided to go. “Also, it’s Bleach.” He gave a smile, showing his enthusiasm before the movie even started.
As the feature began, the rest of the patrons showed their enthusiasm as well. Cheers and clapping could be heard for fan-favorites such as Zaraki Kenpachi and Kuchiki Byakuya, while laughing filled the theater for the movie’s many comedic moments.
Some fans though, were slightly melancholy as they left the theater.
George, who mainly reads the manga version, disliked the fact a favorite character was not present. “They needed Yoruichi,” he said bluntly. He was also disappointed that the humans did “nothing” instead of helping to fight.
“I still liked it,” he added, despite a lack of talking cats.
Before the movie, there was a special feature put together by VIZ, the company that translates the Bleach series. They interviewed different people within the project, including voice actor Johnny Young Bosch. They, along with others, helped to explain the process in which the anime is made ready for an English-speaking audience. Some of the Japanese creators also come on screen to bring their view, via subtitles of course.
Tite Kubo, the series creator, even gave a live ink drawing session before explaining that he was very excited to meet the enthusiastic anime and manga fans at this year’s San Diego Comic Con in July. The convention will feature a showing of the movie.
“They need to come out with the second one,” Eric says, referencing the second Bleach movie: Diamond Dust Rebellion. “They need to come out with more anime movies in America. ... I’d definitely go.”
Bleach is an anime and manga series about “soul reapers” and their job to purify the disturbed souls dubbed “hollows”. The movie follows the main protagonist, Ichigo, as he fights to prevent the Spirit and Living worlds from colliding. The movie’s original protagonist character, Senna, is a key to it all. Many cameos and bit-parts are provided by Soul Society Arc characters, while the story is set after the arc has taken place. New antagonists are also introduced, as well as a new spiritual realm that is tactfully explained by two supporting characters.
Bleach: Memories of Nobody, runs approximately 90 minutes long and will have a Region 1 DVD release in October.
Media Blasters head John Sirabella announced on the Anime on DVD forums that his company has acquired the Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokuro-chan television comedy anime series, which has eight 13-minute episodes. Sirabella did not specify if the acquisition also includes the Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokuro-chan Second video sequel series of four more 13-minute episodes.
The story centers on a middle school boy named Sakura Kusakabe and the club-wielding angel sent from the future to assassinate him. However, the angel Dokuro-chan decides that Sakura is redeemable and tries to prevent him from discovering the secret of immortality (which is his supposed crime). The result is Dokuro-chan alternately killing and resurrecting Sakura, depending on her temperamental mood. The anime is based on Masaki Okayu and Torishimo's light novel series, which was also adapted into manga by Mitsuna Ouse.
