His movements stopped again and she could see he was thinking it over. “And what is it that you want, in the completely impossible event that you win?”
“After the ball you talk my father into letting me travel around Alura.” It was one of the things she had always wanted to do. To see new places and meet new people.
His shoulders started shaking, then she realized he was laughing. “I’m not joking!” She frowned.
He had finished skinning the animal the began carving up the meat. She was about to begin what promised to be a heated argument when he looked up at her. “Alright after we eat.”
She ate silently watching him, bewildered by his agreement to her terms. She expected more of an argument. Finally he spoke up staring at his meal. “Why do you want to travel around Alura?”
“It’s better than getting married.” She stabbed the last piece of meat and looked at it not feeling very hungry at the moment.
“Why is it, that you don’t want to get married?”
She stared at the fire and threw the piece of meat into it making it crackle. “It’s not that I don’t want to. You know how it is? Most marriages of nobility are formed out of obligation and bloodline. I don’t want to become a hostess for aristocratic parties for self absorbed Lords and Barons. I want to marry for love and not title.”
“Is that why you think your parents married?” She could hear the disapproval in his voice.
She looked away frowning. “No, but my parents are different. Eventually I’ll have to get married I know that. But I want to have an adventure before my life becomes worse than it is now.”
