But Donovan and his uncle Cedric--our "father"--wouldn't. They believed in keeping the lucky, uncursed humans alive. This was the objective of our friends in the Denali coven. They also new a coven in Washington that practiced the same principles.

But, that's beside the point. I needed to find a way to get this girl to stay away. I knew she was mad and probably wanted to talk. Humans usually did. Surely Donovan's thought o a plan if he's listening to the frustration exploding in my head.

You better have an idea, Donovan, I thought wryly.

The bell rang and I flew from my seat, dashing out the door. Donovan and I had Calculus together, now. He was waiting Patiently outside the door.

"Unfortunately, for you, I do," he said, continuing our silent conversation I had started.

We walked through Mr. Walker's door and I froze. Her scent was lingering in the room. She must have had this class first hour.

Fire ripped through my throat, my muscles tightened, and the extra venom flowed over my tongue. I hissed under my breath.

Donovan!! I cried childishly in my thoughts. He knew I was burning, I could tell.
