Death

The offices were empty and as I moved to check the break room up there I heard voices. I got the feeling that if they knew I was there, I would regret it. My heart started racing as I quietly approached the open door.

There were two of them inside, wearing business suits and looking down through the floor to ceiling windows that ran along the far wall. They were the kind where the other side couldn’t see what was in the room. I could see the group of people I was with down in the break room on the lower level.

Someone had broken into the vending machines and everyone was sitting at the different tables. Some were drinking and eating while others had their arms folded on the table so they could rest their heads while they slept.

I couldn’t see the faces of the two who were watching, but I knew they were angry that the people were there. Just as I knew they had something coming up and the people being there would ruin it for them.

What do you intend to do about this?” The one on the right said; his voice harsh with disappointment.

The other man harrumphed, “It’s a simple matter.” He raised his right hand, palm facing upwards. A green symbol appeared, spinning in place as it floated above his hand.

Are you out of your mind?” The other protested a hint of panic in his voice. “You can’t control that. If it finds us here, it will rip both of us to shreds along with the humans.

The other man smirked lightly. “Don’t be such a coward. I’ll activate a ward, forcing it to steer clear of where we are located. It will only be here for an hour and then the door will collapse, forcing it back to its own dimension.

You’re an idiot.” The other stated flatly as the symbol flew from the man’s hand.

I couldn’t stop watching as it went through the glass and down to the floor, growing as it flew until it was nearly six feet tall. A feeling of dread overcame me as the spinning stopped and a circular door of energy appeared.
