Death

This odd behavior continued as I stood there, frozen in place. It would catch someone, look into their eyes and then slice them apart. It made no sense. I stepped backwards, intending to turn and flee since I didn’t see my brother, when the creature turned and looked into my eyes from across the room.

SHIT!

I couldn’t move. Its gaze pinned me in place and I finally understood what it was doing. By making eye contact, it could tell if the person knew anything about why it was there. At the same time I got something from the contact as well. It was furious.

Their kind had been dragged from their dimension many times, never to be seen again or worse to be experimented upon. It wanted the one responsible. And it would kill anything that got in its way. Its rage was so intense that I felt myself starting to shake.

The contact broke and I stumbled backwards as it came towards me. Too fast! I backed into a wall in my haste and before I could move, it was upon me. The horseshoe blade came towards my neck and I closed my eyes tightly.

I heard the sound of the blades hitting the wall and then nothing. Cautiously I opened my eyes and then froze in place. It was only a few inches from my neck and a simple shove would be all it took for the creature to finish shoving it into the wall to take my head off.

It ignored the others who were fleeing the building. It stared into my eyes again and I realized that other than tell it that I knew something; it didn’t know what I knew. I jumped when it spoke and the blade nicked the side of my neck. I ignored the blood flowing down to soak my shirt.

You know why I’m here.” The creature stated as it stared into my eyes.

I struggled to reply. I couldn’t get my voice above a frightened whisper. “Kind of.

Tell me and I might spare your life.” It demanded.

I could feel tears flowing down my cheeks. “I’m not completely sure.

Don’t waste my time.” It warned me.

I’m sorry.” I took a deep breath. “All I know is someone brought you here to kill everyone.

It thought about that for a moment. “Where is this person?

They were upstairs in the second break room.” I explained. “I don’t know if they’re still there or not.

The creature tightened its grip on the handle to the blade pinning me in place and I closed my eyes tightly, expecting to die. I heard the horrible sound of the blades grating against the wall and then nothing at all.
