Caption Battle: Love Gives Ya Shivers...

"It's that time again..."
"To tune in to Joss Whedon's Dollhouse every Friday night on FOX?"
"To check my inbox over at eHarmony?"
"No... it's time for this week's caption battle!"

But first, last week's winners:

In third place, for being (for our purposes) in character enough that we'd believe it: ThePockyGirl!

Momoko: Three story buildings are no match for the POWER OF LOVE!!

In second place, because old-school Shatner references are always funny: cougarsama!

Koushi: There's something on the wing!

And in the coveted first place... funny for reasons we all probably don't want to admit to... red.alchemist!

The Representative of the Lollipop Guild is pleased.

There were some good ones this week. Definitely down to the wire; good work, you guys.

So moving on to this week... I guess today is Valentine's Day, so I might as well keep the theme going - and no, it's not Rozen Maiden. This week's screencap comes from ye olde archives and features good ol' Inuyasha, or at least one of the movies. Anyway, the guy on the left is Kirby Morrow; the girl on the right is Kelly Sheridan. Go for it!

You know the drill: type up the funniest, wittiest, most original caption you can think of for the screencap above in the comments below. Also, if any of you would like some tips on writing a great caption, you can find those here.

And like always, theOtaku is open to all submissions and suggestions for weekly feature content. You have a screencap you want used, you can PM me and we can do somethin' about it. And remember: inertia is a property of matter.

Happy Valentine's Day, now.

Blue Dragon Plus Contest (Win a DS Lite!)

In honor of the February 24th release of Blue Dragon Plus for the Nintendo DS we are pleased to announce a contest on theOtaku.com. Before we go into the contest details, here is the prize:

  • Nintendo DS Lite
  • A copy of Blue Dragon Plus
  • A BDP Strategy Guide
  • A BDP half deck
  • A BDP game matt

The contest is only open to people with a US address.

So how do you win?

Well, since the characters in Blue Dragon were designed by legendary anime artist Akira Toriyama, we've decided to create a contest in the tradition of convention "Kame Hame Ha" contests.

Between now and March 12th, 2009, upload a video to youtube of you doing your best / most creative "Kame Hame Ha" and either link that video in the comments here or embed it into a WORLD post with the tag: kamehameha

Also, before you launch into your Kame Hame Ha, say something about theOtaku.com so that we know it's really you and not a video you found somewhere else that you claimed as your own.

To get you amped up, here are some Kame Hame Ha videos:

The contest judge is to be announced but we will be looking at a number of things including creativity, body movements, and vocal quality.

Fan Words Kick In The Pants

Our fan words site needs a HUGE kick in the pants.

Done.

1. Totally New Design - Much cleaner with new information

2. View Regular (Unpublished) World Posts - You can now sift through ALL world posts, not just those are published. Go to the Fan Words site and select status [ Unpublished ] in the drop down menu

3. Faster Turnaround Time - SomeGuy now has a friendly intern (Anomaly) who will speed up approval time on Fan Words

4. Date Created and Date Added on View Page - You can now see when the Fan Word was written as well as when it was approved

5. Member List - you can now see the top Fan Words contributors

6. Update Notifications For Fiction - I admit that our fan fiction support kind of sucks. If you keep going back to a fan fiction piece you wrote that's multi-paged and updating it, it stays on the bottom of your world and no one finds out about it.

Now, when you modify a WORLD post, you can click an option that'll bring the post to the top of your WORLD and will send an update notification to all your subscribers. Problem solved!

We recommend though having more than one chapter done before nominating it for publication though.

Oh, and just to be clear, this kick in the pants is NOT the much-hyped theOtaku MONSTER feature.

Enjoy
